At first Nuriko comes off as a snobbish witch, but we find out later that there is a good reason behind it. Nuriko had a little sister named Kuorin, who was his look alike. She died in a freak accident. Nuriko refused to let her memory die, so he took on her identity and lived out part of his life as his sister Kourin. He has dreams of grandure, his goal is to marry the emperor. Nuriko sees that Hotohori is close to Miaka, the new preistess. He sees her as a treat to his future with emperor Hotohori. He sets out to make Miaka's life a living hell. It backfires. After a while Nuriko finds out that Miaka's romatic intrest is Tamahome, not Hotohori. the two enemies become friends and allies.

As time goes on Nuriko falls in love with Miaka, he respects the love Tamamhome and Miaka share, and is willing to step aside for their happiness. He's gives up crossdressing and lets his sister's memory rest. He feels that in loving Miaka, he's more of a man than woman. He learns the art of self sacrifice for the happiness of another.

His special power is super human strength. He also wears special gauntlets that magnify that power
