Give a kid a camera and surprising things happen. They become more active, more creative and more interested in the world around them.

We meet every Mondays during the school year at Lake Region TV Station, Bridgton Maine at 3:30 pm. Youth in grades 4th though 12th can join, we are also looking for any adults who have video or TV experience.

Youth will receive hands-on, personalized instruction in a range of production skills, including video production, editing, web design, graphics and studio production. The youth will write their own scripts, direct the shows and run the cameras. This program will engage youth in local community building and decision-making while incorporating tools and training for technology. They will learn to use the digital communication arts as a vehicle of self-discovery, an impetus to self-organizing and an opportunity to transform the world through advocacy. The teens will benefit from carrying out their projects from start to finish. Their films will air on the local cable station, LRTV. Some films may be submitted to national filmmaking festivals and competitions.

The Videomakers Club will give these rural youth and opportunity to be in control of their experience, to set their own pace and to select the level of challenge with which they feel comfortable. They will be able to dream up fantastic stories and act them out. They will develop scripts, then break into crews as they turn their scripted stories or interviews into professional quality videos.

Depending on what each production calls for, some youth will perform in the videos while others will work behind the scenes as producers, directors, sound mixers and camera persons.  Some may discover that they enjoy acting, while others may prefer the technical side of production. Everyone will get to contribute to the writing and directing process.
