One that anyone who has ever been to Troglin Field can immediately identify is Southpaw Sanctuary, the name given to the barn that constitutes our right field fence. Due to the lack of left handed batters, not many homeruns have been hit over the sanctuary, but those that have have sure been memorable. Few people have ever heard of the infamous Davis Double Dish, in centerfield at the intersection of the Trogden home and the removable right-center fence. It is a basement window for a bathroom in the Trogden basement and is in play. Josh Davis was the first to hit a ball into the dish, and because he was given a double it thereafter was named the Davis Double Dish. Porter Pond behind home plate, named for Stephen Porter, has eaten many a foul ball to the dismay of everyone playing. Originally these were celebrated as "Porter Pond Splashdowns," but after losing one too many balls this practice was quickly abolished. The Old Trogden Home and the left field bleacher area are the final two key ingredients that make Troglin Field what it is. The house, constructed long ago, serves as the center field fence as well as the primary backdrop of the field. In it live Big Rich and Sandi, proprietors of Troglin Field since its conception. The left field bleacher area behind the left field fence and next to the house holds a swingset/clubhouse for the youngsters and a grill area for those looking to snag a bite to eat. (Behind the house and bleacher area lives Jake the Beast, subject of many myths. Fortunately, few balls make it into Jake's domain) |
