The Power of the Closet

"But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door pray to thy Father which is in secret, and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." Matt. 6:6

In our society today we have people who have made decisions to come out of the closet and to risk exposure of their lifestyle or beliefs. The Holy Spirit spoke to my heart that the majority of God's people need to discover their closet and go in it!

A closet is a small enclosure or private room for a meditation. It is also defined as the King's private room for prayer or consultation. A third definition is a room to shut up in for private confidential discussions.

The basis of genuine prayer is communion with the Lord. It is not in flowery phrases or eloquent speech. The time given to meditation on God's word needs to be expanded and become a priority in your life. Meditate has as its base Med which means to measure, consider, reflect., healer or medical healing. Taking the time to meditate on scriptures of trust, faith, health, prosperity will bring forth through a renewed mind. ("And be renewed in the spirit of your mind." Ephesians 4:24) healing, wholeness and soundness in your Christian walk. However, meditation is only one plank in the foundation of intimacy with Good. We need a private place for consultation with the Father. Psalm 46:10a says for us to "Be still, and know that I am God." Our lifestyle wants to do everything to have us flowing in quick decisions without consulting or hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit. Many missed opportunities and incorrect decisions occur because we flowed in impatience instead of waiting on God ("Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord." Psalm 27:14). We also need to see prayer as place for confidential discussions to occur ("I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings." Psalm 77:12). A room where warfare strategies are planned and carried out. Our homes have rooms with certain names attached to them, how much more do we need a place of prayer and a time for prayer. Yes we can as Luke 18:1 states develop the habit of wearing prayer continually but as a royal priesthood and a spiritual nation of Kings and Priest in the earth we need a place' to skillfully learn how to hear the voice of God ("I would know the words which he would answer me, and understand what he would say unto me." Job 23:5). We need to know how to respond to his promptings and how to be governed or ruled by his anointing that resides in his word ("Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips." Hosea 14:2).

It is more than crucial for you in your walk with God that you labor to know him and seek him and seek to bear fruit that remains. There is no other way to develop this than to build that place of prayer ("Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually." I Chronicles 16:11). Evil days and wicked assaults are already upon the nations of the earth. For God to entrust you with global warnings regarding frontline assaults on the kingdoms of the earth and the government of the church ("Surely the Lord god will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets." Amos 3:7). As well as practical insights for your day to day walk you must wear the patience of prayer. Learn to be diligent in seeking God's will by positioning yourself in prayer ("And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but found none." Ezekiel 22:30). Be swift to respond when he calls for you to come to the high place with him. Set your heart to know him more and more with each sunrise to sunset.

Be like the Hart: As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. Psalm 42:1
Be like the Servant: But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord God, that I may declare all thy works. Psalm 73.28
Be like the Prophet: And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.
Be like the Sheep: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: John 10:27
Learn of your God: Cause me to hear thy loving kindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.

Don't you think its time to rediscover your prayer closet?

"Behold I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." Revelation 3:20 "I will bless the Lord, who hath given me my counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons." Psalm 16:7.
