VISIONARY HERBS

Herbs associated with the realm of spiritual vision are known as visionary.  This is, however are more than experiencing a vision.  Being visionary extends an herb into the realm of dreams or any practice which enables one to extend vision beyond one’s physical eyes.  These herbs include many used in the practice of divination and several which may be used to invoke an oracle.  Visionary Herbs include those which enhance the quality of one’s meditations.  They assist in helping us extend our perception beyond the limitations of our physical eyes.  It is through these herbs that we may be offered the gift of looking across the abyss or of having mystical dreams, of looking beyond the self in order to seek solutions and answers from the divine.

A number of the Visionary Herbs assist the transportations of the practitioner through physiological effects, several of which may be narcotic and are included due to their sacramental role in the religious rites of indigenous peoples.  I do not recommend the usage of controlled substances but recognize the importance of this work for some people.

  Visionary Herbs include the following:
Aconite, alder, angelica, anise seed, apple, asafortida, ash, basil (sweet), bay laurel, benzoin, buckthorn (sea), camphor, catnip, cedar, celery, centaury, cinnamon, cinquefoil, clary, clover, cloves, cornflower, cucumber, damiana, dittany of Crete, elm, eyebright, fern (bracken), foxglove, hazel nut, hemp, honeysuckle, hops, horehound, jimsonweed, kava kava, lavender, loosestrife (purple), mandrake, marigold, mescal, mugwort, peppermint, peyote, poke root, rampion, rowan, rue, sandalwood, thornapple, unicorn root, vervain, watercress, wormwood, yarrow.
