Fight dry skin --
By RIMA SONI

Prone to quick lines and wrinkles dry skin can be
treated with quick and easy stuff from the kitchen.

I WOULD worry if wrinkles and lines appeared while I
was in my 20s or 30s, and if that were to happen, it
would mean an urgent need to take serious action to
protect and treat the dryness before it's too late.

Dry skin ages and wrinkles fast as it lacks both oil
and water. The first very thing that is in everyone's
control is consumption of a minimum quantity of 1 to
1. litre of water every day. Add an additional
tablespoon of oil to your salad as well to reduce the
dryness from the skin. A capsule of cod liver oil is
also good people with for dry skin.

Avoid using soap on the face and body, instead cleanse
it with milk and honey in equal proportion and for
fragrance. Splash on rosewater as well.

Avocado is rich in amino acids and vitamins and makes
an excellent anti-aging treatment giving additional
oils to repair dry wrinkled skin.

Take a ripe avocado, put it in a food processor. To
three tablespoons of the avocado puree, add 1 tsp
vinegar and 1 tsp honey. Apply this on the dry face
and neck (if dry). Leave on for a minimum of 20
minutes.

Take a warm damp face cloth to clean off the mask.
Finish off with a splash of rosewater. Do this at
least twice a week to feel the difference in the skin
texture. Vinegar will condition the skin and cure it
from stretching and pulling and honey will cleanse the
pores and moisturise the skin while the avocado will
supply the skin with rich oils and give sheen and
gloss.

If you cannot gather fresh cream from milk, you may
use cream from the tin and take 1 tbsp cream, 1 tbsp
strawberry puree and 1 tbsp glycerine. The combination
of these 3 ingredients should be massaged very well
onto dry skin, using circular movements. This
treatment has tremendous benefits on skin. The cream
supplies oil to the pores, strawberry exfoliates dead
cells and the glycerine holds and supplies moisture to
the skin making it smooth soft and supple.

Yet another treatment to help skin is supplying it
with Vitamin A and carrots that are a rich source of
the vitamin. Make a pulp from 1 carrot and add 1 tsp
honey and burst 1 capsule of cod liver oil. Mix all 3
ingredients well and massage onto the dry skin. Leave
on for 20 minutes and clean off with a warm damp face
towel. This mask is very nourishing and the cod liver
oil is rich in Vitamin D protecting skin and making it
smooth and supple.

Ever tried feeling dry corn flour - it feels like silk
and that's exactly what it does if you use it as a
facial mask. Add to 1 tbsp cornflour, 1 tsp honey, 1
tsp cream and enough rosewater to make the paste
smooth, but not runny. It makes the skin very
moisturised and supple and very fresh and healthy
removing the grey colour which is generally how dry
skin looks.

My precious facial massage for a dry skin is warm
almond oil and using it in circular massage strokes
for a minimum of 3 to 4 minutes. Then take a muslin
cloth, dip in warm milk and cover the face with this
gauze making small cuts near nose and mouth to breath
comfortably. This is a very rich and soothing
treatment for excessive dry skin. If done daily, it
does not damage the skin, but will help cure the dry
flakiness. The gauze should be left for at least 10
minutes over the face to help cleanse and moisturise
the skin.

The treatments I have recommended can be used on any
part of the body and if you combine with dry brushing
the body before your shower you will cure dryness as
quick as can be.

So why wait since you have all the ingredients at home
-- be your own beautician!

Dry Skin Fixes
by Kathryn O'Halloran

These face masks are extra nourising for those times when you need an
extra boost.

Honey Mask:
Warm 3 tbsp of honey in a small pot until it is melted. Make sure you
use a low heat and don't burn the honey. Add the juice of 1/2 an
orange.

This can be used around the eyes, so long as you avoid getting juice
in your eyes.

Spring Chicken Face Mask:
This face mask makes you look like a spring chicken - it doesn't use
one in the ingredients. This should be used all over, including the
neck to firm up the skin. Avoid eye areas like the plague and don't
use it if your skin is at all sensitive.

Mix together 1 tbsp milk, 1 tsp clear honey, 1 egg white and 1 tsp
camphor. You might need to warm the honey a little to get it to
combine easily. Apply this to the skin and watch your skin tighten
up.

Special Treatment Oil Mask:
This mask shouldn't be used to often but is great when you need some
special treatment - if you get a bit of sunburn in summer or chapped
skin in winter.

Warm a small amount of good quality olive oil in a bowl over boiling
water. When the oil is skin temperature, take it off the boil and
soak some cotton wool in the oil. Apply as compresses to your skin,
and leave until they have cooled down. Remove them and then blot to
remove excess oil with a tissue or two. Apply a warm camomile
compress to your face for a few minutes then splash with cold water.

Just remember that with any natural product, such as these you should
do a test for any allergic reactions to the ingredients before you
use them. Apply a small amount to your skin in your elbow joint and
cover with a plaster for 24 hours.
