23: Law & Order

Notes: From Fred’s point of view.
A strange sound woke him up. It was pitch dark in the room and the sound was really annoying. Fred had no idea where it came from.
“Charlie? Stop making noise,” Fred mumbled tiredly.
“Shut up, it’s your cell-phone, stupid,” Charlie answered.
Fred moaned and put the pillow over his head. It muffled the sound a little, until Charlie threw his book at him. “Answer, damn it!”
“Fine! And I’m not stupid,” Fred growled and reached for his cell. “Yes, what the hell is it?”
He immediately crawled back into bed and put the cell under his ear. “Hello? Fred?” It was Cecilia’s voice. Why wasn’t he surprised? It was only three in the morning, the perfect time to call a person.
“Yeah, it’s me. Where the hell are you? I’ve been looking for you all night.”
“Are you sleeping?” she asked. “That’s the complete opposite to be looking for a person. I’m actually calling to ask you a question. You know when you’re part of Miller Corporation? They can get people out of jail, right?”
Fred sat up and rubbed his eyes. “Why?”
“Uhm, well, it’s a long story. You see, we were at Millennium, but then Connie got into trouble, and...” Cecilia began explaining, but got interrupted by someone talking next to her. “Uh, Fred?”
“Yeah?”
“Connie can tell you the rest, I’ve talked too long, and they won’t let me finish the call. Just listen to her, okay?”
“Fine. Hey, thanks for stealing my ID, by the way.”
“You’re welcome. Mention that when you bail me out and I’ll be here for longer then just a day.”
Horrible headache, horrible headache.

Notes: From Guy’s point of view.
Guy went over to Connie, who was sitting on a chair next to the counter. She was staring into the floor, while holding a cup of coffee.
“Connie?”
“Yeah?”
She looked up at him with a happy expression on her face. “Guy! Oh my God, I thought you wouldn’t show up!” Connie exclaimed and got up from the chair. “I’m so glad you’re here, they won’t let Cecilia out, and Julie’s missing.”
“Like I care,” Guy said. “I only care how you’re doing. Are you okay?”
Connie nodded and threw her arms around his neck. “I’m fine. You wouldn’t believe what happened, Cecilia punched some guy right in the face! They took them both into custody, and we can’t see her.”
“I knew she was trouble. She’s completely crazy that girl,” Guy growled angrily. “What normal person starts fights just like that?”
“No, you don’t understand! This guy tried to... well, I accidentally ran into him and knocked his beer out, and he got mad at me. He grabbed my arm and pushed me down, so Cecilia got mad and punched him. It wasn’t her fault, she just got angry because he pushed me.”
Guy stared at her. “This guy tried to hurt you? Because you ran into him? He didn’t hurt you, did he?”
“No, but he punched Cecilia, she got a huge bruise on her cheek and a black-eye. Sarah tried to break them up, but she couldn’t do much. Cecilia pushed her away so she wouldn’t get hurt. You know how Cecilia gets when she’s mad, she gets unbelievably strong. It’s freaky.”
Guy rubbed his temples. “You’re talking too fast, Connie. Why did you go to that club anyway?”
“Because I was mad,” Connie explained.
“You were mad? I’m the one entitled to be mad! You didn’t tell me about Fred, and you sneaked out to go to some club, and then you got into trouble!”
“Thanks, MOM, for clearing that up for me. I can’t be mad? You were the one bringing that whole Luis-thing up!”
This wasn’t going anywhere, Guy knew for sure. They were both angry, and Connie was upset. No wonder they were fighting. And it wouldn’t get any better when Coach Bombay showed up either.
They both turned the other way, too frustrated to be able to think. Fred came running up to them. “Connie, where’s Cecilia?”
Connie pointed towards the hallway. “They put her in one of the cells. She wasn’t even upset about it; she said that I should talk to you. And then she said that everything would be alright, but that’s clearly not going to happen.”
Fred put his finger up in front of her lips. “Shush, Connie. Could you tell all this to Bombay when he shows up? He might not kill you, he seems to be very fond of you, compared to Cecilia.”
Connie nodded and turned to Guy. “I don’t know where Julie is. Maybe you should find out?”
Guy nodded. They could continue fighting later.

Notes: From Cecilia’s point of view.
The door in the end of the hallway opened up and one of the policemen came walking down the hall. He stopped in front of the cell. “Here she is.”
Cecilia threw an eye towards the policeman. Then she noticed that he had Fred with him. He walked up to the bars and waved with his fingers at her. “Hey.”
“Hey.”
“I can’t bail you out, I’m sorry.”
It wasn’t such a big deal. The bench was kind of uncomfortable, but other then that she wasn’t feeling too bad. “Don’t worry about it, I guess Mike’s on his way. He can get me out.”
“It’s not that, if I pay, my Dad will know. You know...”
“It’s okay Fred, I’m not too bad in here. It’s pretty comfy, and I can drink all the water I want to,” Cecilia said sarcastically. “And look, they gave me my own cell too! It’s paradise here.”
“Could you turn the sarcasm off for a second?” Fred begged. “I know that you must be feeling...”
“Nah, I’ve been in jail before. I remember when they caught me for shoplifting in New York. I spent a whole day in prison. Petty theft, ha!”
“Fine, be that way. If you don’t wanna be serious about it, don’t be.”
“I am being serious!” Cecilia exclaimed. She sat up on the bench and moved over to Fred. “But what’s the point. You’re gonna yell anyway, right?”
“I was planning on doing so, yes,” Fred replied.
Cecilia climbed up on the bench and kneeled so she could see him eye to eye. Fred stared into the floor for a second, and then looked up again. “Maybe I can get you out anyway. They can’t keep you locked up when you’re innocent.”
Cecilia gave him an indulgent smile. “Fred, this isn’t like the public library. You can’t just walk out when you get sick of being here.”
“Maybe they’ll let me in, then. I can commit some kind of felony.”
“Very unlikely. Just try to convince Bombay to not kill me, that’s all I’m asking for.”
Fred sat down on the floor and Cecilia did the same. He put his hand in through the bars. “Give it to me.”
“What?”
“My ID-card, of course. I could kill you just for that.”
Cecilia smiled and reached down into her shoe. She’d put the card in one of her socks so it wouldn’t get lost. Fred grabbed it immediately.
“So, tell me what happened,” he ordered.
“Well, this is how it was; we all went to Millennium, and Connie met up with these guys, but we dragged her away from them...”
Cecilia leaned against the bars, while telling Fred the whole story.
