Marriage Daze

Chapter 16: Spin City

Notes: From Guy’s point of view.

If the situation had been bad before, it was even worse now. Especially after Ms. Adams had decided to increase the length of the project. Now they were stuck with each other for another week too. Two pain filled weeks wasn’t enough, apparently.

Charlie and Cecilia were avoiding each other for some reason. Cecilia was still mad at Fred because of another reason. Guy wasn’t even sure what it was about, and he couldn’t really say that he cared either.

Connie and Fred weren’t speaking either, and all they did was to bug each other.

Scott and Julie had almost killed each other off, which was some kind of improvement. The almost part, that was.

And then there were Sarah and he. Sarah was still not over the whole elevator-trauma, and honestly, he wasn’t too happy about the memory of that either. Actually, the thought of Connie and Fred arguing was what made him sleep at night. That was the only thing that got him through the whole thing. Knowing that Connie was as miserable in her ‘marriage’ as well.

Guy sat down at their usual table in the dining hall. Everyone else was there, and they were talking loudly as usual.

“It’s one more week, and then we’re done. School is out in one and a half week. Let’s just think about that,” Charlie said.

“That’s a good one coming from you. You began plotting to kill your ‘wife’ the first day,” Russ reminded him.

“Well, I’ve lasted this long, right? Now, shut up and stop complaining.”

Guy looked at Cecilia who was sitting next to Adam on the other side of the table. “What’s up with the two of you? Was the concern for you I heard in Charlie’s little speech?” he asked.

“Mind your own business,” Cecilia growled. “We’re getting along, because we want good grades. You should try it, Germaine.”

“Maybe you should try it instead,” Adam interrupted.

“What?” Cecilia said.

“With Fred. You’re still angry with him, so I suggest you get over it.”

Cecilia shrugged. “He won’t tell me the truth, so I couldn’t care less.”

“So? Maybe he was just trying to save you the trouble of worrying. You seemed fine just a couple of days ago when you cheated on Charlie.”

Guy sighed tiredly. Why didn’t they just give it a rest?

“Huh?” Cecilia mumbled. “I haven’t ‘cheated’ on Charlie.”

“So, what did you do with Fred in your room then?” Adam asked.

“I just kissed him, you saw it for yourself. And he kissed me, for the matter of fact.”

Adam rolled his eyes. “Before that, stupid.”

Guy put his hands up. “Does it matter?”

“Nope,” Cecilia answered. “Besides, you two know that better then me, you must’ve met him in the hallway.”

“No, I didn’t,” said Adam. “Maybe he slept in his own room.”

“No, I slept there,” Cecilia replied and got up from her chair. “And I didn’t meet him when I walked to my room in the morning. Where did he sleep then?”

“Probably at Connie’s,” Julie interrupted them. “I heard them talking when I brushed my teeth the night before. Maybe he fell asleep there.”

He exchanged a look with Cecilia. She seemed extremely mad.

Guy felt his whole nerve-system broke down. Why hadn’t Connie told him about that? Maybe he was exaggerating, but he just couldn’t help it. What had they been doing in her room all night?!
