6: There’s Something Going On

Notes: From Connie’s point of view.
Charlie had given them all small assignments. While he was investigating the campsite with Travis and a stubborn Cecilia, Connie was set to find out more about how the Warriors were doing. Guy was also tagging along.
“You think they’ve gotten any better?” Connie asked while they were walking towards the Warrior-area.
“We beat them once, we can beat them again,” Guy answered. “I bet they’ve changed the symbol back from the Duck.”
“Eden Hall you mean?”
“Yeah, what else should I be talking about?” Guy smiled. “I’m glad Charlie decided to let me spend some time with you. Man, I feel completely brainwashed after two days in the same tent as Cecilia. Why does she always have to follow me around?”
“Oh, please! You like that she’s always following you around. Maybe she looks up to you or something. Nah, it can’t be it...”
“Why not?” Guy asked.
“Why are you always being so mean to her?” Connie continued.
Guy sighed. “I’m finally away from her for a second, and you want to talk about her? Can’t I just have a Cecilia-free time?”
Connie shrugged and grabbed his hand. “Let’s go see what those Warriors are up to. We don’t have to talk about Cecilia. Did you hear that her brother is playing in that Swedish team?”
“Connie!” Guy wailed. “I don’t give a damn.”
They both walked down the path towards the forest. Connie suddenly stopped.
“What?” Guy asked.
“I don’t recognize this place,” she said with a startled voice. “Do you think we’re...”
“What?”
“Do you think we’re lost?”
Guy glared at her. “Oh, shut up,” he muttered and went past her over towards the dining-hall. Connie followed him, while giggling amused at her own joke.
“I was only kidding,” she explained. “It was funny.”
“No, it wasn’t. I don’t consider being stuck in the woods for several hours with Cecilia as ‘funny’. Did you think they had fun in ‘Blair Witch’?”
“No, but they did have some sort of humor. At least the ones who made the movie.”
Connie tugged his arm. “Look, it’s Travis. Maybe he has found out something about the Owls?”
Connie went over to Travis and nudged his shoulder. Travis turned around with a startled face, but when he saw whom it was, he sighed. “Connie, what are you doing here?”
“Scaring you, obviously. Do you have some information about the Owls yet?” Connie asked him. “You must have some inside information, right?”
“Like secret information?” Travis replied. “Sorry, but I don’t.”
“Do you have any other sort of information to share?” Guy said curiously.
Travis shook his head no. “Other then that Charlie got into a fight with Cecilia, I know nothing.”
“What sort of fight?” Connie asked, while disregarding Guy’s complaining. “Shut up, it might be interesting!”
Guy moaned. “I so very doubt that. I don’t even care if he kills her. Don’t there exist any other information, which do not include Cecilia in any way?”
“There’s free ice-cream in the cafeteria,” Travis said. “Is that enough?”
Guy nodded and grabbed Connie’s hand. “C’mon, let’s go get some ice-cream.”
Connie smiled while she was being dragged along towards the front door of the dining-hall. Maybe free ice cream could get Guy on a better mood? He could really need it.

Notes: From Charlie’s point of view.
The whole afternoon got ruined when a storm passed by the area. At least it didn’t rain, but the wind was blowing really intense, so all the campers could do was to stay in their tents.
The First Line was all gathered in one of the tents together with a few of their other teammates. The subject of the conversation was of course what they should do when they were playing up against the Warriors the next day.
Charlie was sitting with his arms around his knees, shivering every time the wind struck their tent. He couldn’t believe that they were stuck in the tent, while Bombay and Muck was comfortably staying in their little cabin up by the road. That was just so unfair!
“This is not so bad,” Connie said from the other side of the tent.
“If there’s anyone that shouldn’t be speaking, it’s you,” Adam growled.
Charlie couldn’t do anything but agree on that. Connie was snuggled up in Guy’s arms, and didn’t look too uncomfortable. “I bet you’re not even cold,” Charlie muttered. “You should try and sit over here. I might like ice, but this is ridiculous.”
Connie shrugged and went back to being pampered in Guy’s embrace. Charlie made a disgusted face. Who could be happy for them? Not him.
“Shouldn’t we be out finding out more about the other teams?” Sarah asked.
“Who’s stopping you? If you want to blow all the way back to Canada, go ahead,” Charlie answered. “I hope you don’t mind that we stay back here.”
“Cecilia and Fred are still out spying on the teams,” Sarah pointed out. “Why can’t we?”
“If you want to play Nancy Drew, that’s your choice. We’re happy with staying here, not trying to die with hypothermia,” Adam said. “Besides, I have a feeling that Cecilia and Fred are busy with other things then spying on stupid teams. They don’t even know about the other teams.”
“Just the Eagles. I think they’re arguing. I bet they’re arguing,” Guy mumbled. “But I don’t care.”
Charlie looked at Connie. “What’s up with him?”
“He’s just mad because he’s being adored by a younger girl,” Connie explained. “Although he’s in denial, because he really thinks it’s cool.”
“What did I say about Cecilia-free time?” Guy asked.
“That it was a ridiculous thing?” Connie said. “Because it is. Everyone else but you likes her.”
Nish cleared his throat loudly.
“Okay, stands her,” Connie rolled her eyes.
“I stand her,” Guy said. “Just not all damn day. Change the subject, or I’ll get panic.”
“You already are panicking,” Connie smiled. “Is it the storm that’s freaking you out?”
“No, you’re freaking me out,” Guy replied. “And you’re almost as annoying as Cecilia when you’re like this.”
“I take that as a compliment,” Connie giggled. “Shut up now, you’re bugging me.”
Charlie tuned them both out. He was just about to throw the remaining part of his candy-bar at them when Fred came tumbling into the tent.
“It’s really windy outside,” he complained. The others just stared at him. “Okay, I guess you all already knew that. What’s going on?”
“We’re in here freezing our ass off, listening to Guy complaining about your girlfriend,” Charlie answered. “What are you doing?”
Fred shrugged and sat down next to Sarah. “Freezing my ass off, while complaining about my girlfriend.”
“Ah, so you wanna join the ‘Boycott Cecilia Club’ too?” Adam joked. “We’re going public next week.”
“I heard that,” Cecilia shouted from outside. “If you don’t shut up, I’ll kick your ass.”
Guy closed his eyes. “Did you all hear Cecilia’s voice, or am I going out of my mind?”
“I think it came from outside,” Nish sighed.
“Cecilia, get in here,” Fred yelled. “You’re too tiny to be outside in a weather like this. You’ll blow away.”
“She won’t be missed,” both Nish and Guy said at the same time.
Charlie closed his eyes for a moment and pretended to be somewhere else. Somewhere warmer. Somewhere his team couldn’t reach him.
