Chaotic Wedding
Chapter
6: Darkness and Black Lights
(Un) Important babbling-notes from Cimmy: Sadly Simon had stay back in Tamarack, but he was in The Duck Farm when the Ducks played against the Owls... He's probably going to show up here too, because... Well, who's NOT going to show up in this story?

12.05 - on the parking-lot
I step out of my car, which I've parked successfully in one of the flowerbeds. I don't get it. Why do they have so much flowers?
It's been two months since I last saw the Ducks. I speak to them all the time, but I haven't seen anyone 'for real' since before Christmas Break.
My Dad convinced me to go back to Yale. He said that a higher education is much more important then the Ducks could ever be. I don't know why I agreed to do such a stupid thing.
I hate Yale. It was okay and all when I went there last year, but now I just miss my friends. But my Dad is happy and content. Oh, joy.
"There you are! Mr. Germaine has been asking for you!" one of the parking-people says. Yes, parking-people.
"Uhm, okay... Where are they?"
I didn't manage to drive home in time to be on the rehearsal dinner last night. My whole family was invited, and I was the only one who didn't show up. Does that make me a betrayer?
I quickly walk into the hotel. It's a big mansion, it reminds me of my grandparents house in Kentucky. They sold it long ago, but I remember spending my summers there when I was younger.
There's a sign on the door. 'Closed'. It looks like Cecilia's handwriting. She closed down the mansion? Instead of her, I see Charlie rush around by the counter. "What's going on?" I ask curiously. "Where's Guy?"
"Banksie!" Charlie shouts and drops everything he has in his hands. I look at him with a confused expression while he's jumping over the counter to come and greet me.
"Yeah, it's me. Are you working here?"
He gives me a hug and tries to choke me. Maybe not, but he managed to make me lose my breath. What's this?
"I'm so glad you're here," he almost sobs. "I broke my foot, and there was a blackout, and there was food-poisoning in the kitchen, and Connie ran away and..." He keeps telling me all the things that had gone wrong, and it wasn't a short list. "You gotta do something!"
So that's why he's so friendly. He wants me to do the entire dirt he's been assigned to do. "Forget it," I say. "Where's the others?"
Charlie explains once more about the catastrophes. I just roll my eyes. It's always like this when the team has something important to do. Although, I'm not on the team anymore... Ouch, that thought hurt.
I'm telling my Dad that I'm going back to NYU again. I can't live like this. I can't live to please everyone else, and never do anything for myself. I have to tell Dad that I've made up my mind. I'm going back to the Ducks.
"...and then the car backed right into Fred's car, and Bombay was NOT happy!" Charlie yells.
"Huh?" I say, not following the conversation at all. This sounds way confusing, I better pay attention if I'm going to catch up.
The front door opens up again, and Ken comes limping in. He nods at me without saying anything, then he continues to walk toward the stairs. He stops when he meets Cecilia, who's coming out from the ballroom. She's soaking wet and is limping too.
They both stop to give each other a short look. "I fell down from the sink," she mutters.
"I fell down a ladder," Ken snorts. Cecilia looks at him in silence for a second.
"You win," she admitts and they both walk past each other.
What's been happening while I was gone anyway?!

12.12 - less then three hours to go
It won't stop snowing. The last four days have been really sunny, and NOW it's the snowstorm from hell outside. I almost feel bad for Connie and Guy. Almost, that is. I would be feeling sorry for them, had it not been me Guy had assigned to solve the energy-crisis. Okay, I'm just supposed to get the lights to work on the fifth floor, but still. Call an electrician!
The wind is howling, what else is new? The snow is falling, ha, like I care.
I manage to locate the burnt cable, causing all the rooms on the fifth floor to live in darkness. My assistant took a break a few minutes ago, and hasn't come back yet. Damn Averman.
There's nothing more to do then to cut off the cable and draw a new one. I don't know how to do that, but how hard can it be?
Uhm, harder then I thought, I realize two seconds later. Since I don't want any electric bolts in my body, I have to find the power-switch to turn off the main-thingie. I have no idea what I'm doing, actually.
I decide to cut the cable. I get struck by lightning. Or so it feels. I say lots of bad words.
Damn.

12.03 - over and over and over again
I'm still playing solitaire with myself in my room. My God, time's passing slowly today. Every time I look at the clock, it's still just a couple of minutes passed 12.00.
I'm getting dressed exactly at 13.35. Yep, I am. Why get all worked up for nothing?
There's people calling me every five seconds, but I refuse to answer. I'm getting ready when I feel like it.
"Connie, get out from there! It's almost one o' clock!" Julie shouts. She's back from the tailor. Goody.
They're trying to get me out from here by lying. Like I'd fall for those tricks. I can clearly see that the time is 12.03. Stupid Ducks.

There sure is a lot of food here! Well, a bit less now when Goldberg and Portman cleaned the plates, but still! Wow! And beef jerky! I'm so happy to be invited, and I hope you'll be extremely happy together. And look at all the food! Wow!
Mom told me to write. I am now. I'm bored, and Ally is a darn brat. I wish she could go away and never come back. I'm not wearing the black shoes tomorrow! No way!
Luck be a lady, I read that on the napkins. I don't know what it means. My grandmother used to say that marriage is a way to go through a chaotic happiness, but I think this wedding can be described like that too. Nonetheless, I'm convinced that you two are bound to be happy for life. No matter what odds you have against you. Be happy, it's an order from the only sane co-captain on this team.
Hey, I'm just as sane as Travis! I just read his entry, and argh! I can't write what I had in mind right now, I'm going to chase Travis and make him take that back!
