| Eager, refreshing and qualified. This years drama graduates have put together a show worth your while. John Moores Universitys Theatre in the Makin 2002 are ready. Tickets to all four shows available now. Alice in Wonderland is first on the menu, and even though every line is original and youll meet the traditional characters, this show has a slightly darkened twist. All the characters are horrible, 22-year-old director Eli Johnson says, but I think it presents the meaning of the show better than the traditional slant. Alice is a not a girl and not yet a woman. My way of telling the story emphasises the confusion she goes through when she finds her self in this twisted Wonderland. Another show thats stirred up a bit is Willy Russels Stags and Hens, this time directed by Donna Woodman. I thought it would be interesting if the women said the mens lines and vice versa to give the show a more contemporary feel, and we ended up with something that works, she says. Many hilarious complications arise and it all begins when husband-to-be gets caught re-kindling an old-flame on his stag night. Mojo, an exciting Liverpool premier directed by Kelly McHugh, is a tale of murder, betrayal and the glamour of a gangsters life. The story is set in the eastend of London, and it thrives on its original style. The cast of brash cockneys are full of unforgettable wit and charm. 12 angry men is the fourth and final part of the festival. Its set in a courtroom and a jury of 12 have to make a decision that may cost a boys life. He is on trial for killing his own father, and the jury has to decided on the verdict. Guilty or not guilty. Originally, this cast is all male, but due to the gender ratio of the actors involved, director Scott Morgan had to include women as well. Hopefully having women in the cast will also provide an extra dynamic edge to the play and make it stand out from previous productions Theatre in the Makin 2002 will be showing from Monday 11 March to Friday 22 March. Tickets and more information about the plays are available from the Box Office on Tel / Fax: 0151 23 15 093. All venues are at Joe H. Makin Drama Centre in Pilgrim Street, Liverpool. |
