Acts of Achievements

Acts of Achievements is the name of this years Black History Month programme. Black History Month is an event that puts the spotlight on how African, Asian and Caribbean people have contributed to the society. The event is celebrated annually in October across the UK.

This year a host of Manchester and North West organisations will come together with a remarkable programme. They promise to showcase an explosion of entertaining and important stories for everyone.

Over 60 events including dance, visual arts, exhibitions, poetry, lectures, conferences, debate, vintage films, music, theatre, childrens events and even living history characters to converse with are included in the program.

Acts of Achievements boasts of an exciting line-up of international and local events. A major workshop and a performance project representing 100 black men will be some of the highlights, In My Fathers House. Zions schools oral history project, Local Heroes, and a high-energy hip-hop take on Shakespeare called Rome and Jewels are on the line-up as well.

The program highlights how the black community have contributed to almost every aspect of society like literature, performing and visual arts, medicine, science, technology, politics, sports, inventions and education.

Acts of Achievements is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the huge contributions that Black artists and communities make to this region. With such a culturally rich programme of events during Black History Month, there is something for everyone to enjoy, says Michael Eakin, chief Executive of North West Arts Boards.
