BIOGRAPHICAL
SKETCH
Dr Vijay Kumar Sarawat
is born at
Gwalior
in May 1949. He
obtained his ME (Mech) from Indian Institute of
Science,
Bangalore
and PhD from
Osmania
University
,
Hyderabad
. He joined DRDL as
Senior Scientific Officer during 1972. Presently, Dr Sarawat
is the Program Director ‘AD’ and Director RCI.
He was involved in the development of Liquid Rocket Engines for various
missile applications and set up facilities for evaluation of the same.
Dr
Sarawat as Project Director for PRITHVI Project was
instrumental on Design, Development, Production and Induction of India’s first
indigenous Surface-to-Surface Missile PRITHVI into Armed Forces. He is conferred
Padmashri in 1998 by President of India in recognition of his contributions in the field
of Science and Engineering in Defense Technology.
Dr Sarawat
is an elected Fellow of Indian National Academy of Engineering since 1994. Aeronautical
Society of
India
since
2001 and Institution of Engineers (
India
) since
2002.
He has won prestigious awards like DRDO’s
scientist of the year in 1987 and National Aeronautical Prize in 1993.
Presently, Dr Sarawat
is the Chairman of AeSI (
Hyderabad
chapter) and
Chairman of Combustion Institute (Indian Section). He is on the Board of
Directors of BDL, Member of Governing Council of SAMEER, Board
of Studies in Mechanical Engineering of Osmania
University. He is also on the Board of Research of All India Council for
Technical Education.
