ANGLALINGVAJ MATERIALOJ
HIMNOLOGIO ESPERANTA

A Word of Greeting
from
The World Council of Churches

Rev Dr Alan Falconer, director of the Faith and Order Commission of the World Council of Churches, contributed the following letter to the prefatory matter in _ADORU : Ekumena Diserva Libro_, the joint Catholic-Protestant Esperanto hymnal published in 2001:

Esperanto arose as an attempt to increase human communication and mutual understanding. This volume admirably reinforces these purposes. At various meetings and congresses occasion has been taken to celebrate Christian worship either as part of the official proceedings or as an officially recognized adjunct to the programme. Now the appropriate tools are available in Esperanto to make these occasions an even more integrated element in the life of the society.

In ADORU, Protestants, Roman Catholics and Ortodox combine to present the riches of their liturgical and worship traditions and resources. The collection contains translations of the principal texts of the different churches and includes a number of services and liturgical materials which have emerged through the liturgical movement and through the work of the World Council of Churches. That work in itself seeks to be an expression of drawing people towards unity while helping them to appreciate the diversity and riches of expression of praise to the glory of God.

This volume is a helpful tool which should facilitate mutual understanding, personal meditions and, as occasion allows, common celebration. The editors are to be highly commended for their enterprise and their work.

May this volume enable the user to appropriate the prayer of St. Hilary of Poitiers:

Almighty God, bestow on us / the meaning of words, / the light of understanding, / nobility of diction / and faith in the truth / and grant that what we believe we may also speak. / Amen.
