It seems like almost every day in ASG, there is a post from some member asking for help in decoding pictures when they don't show up in their news reader as a picture that is easy to save. I've posted information about how to get and use UudeView so many times I've lost count. So, I decided to put up a permanent page here so there will always be a resource about how to turn that text garbage into the picture you wanted.
The trick is to use the SAVE AS option in whatever newsreader you are using and type in whatever you want as the file name (it doesn't matter what it is because the decoding file name that will actually be used is part of the message header), but DO remember to give it the .UUE extension. If you are using the newsreader in Netscape Communicator, it's still screwed up as of version 4.05 in dealing with multiple picture posts. You save one, then try to save another and it goes and reads the whole message again. Save the whole message as a .UUE and use UudeView to decode them all.
If UudeView can't decode the file you create, it most likely can't be done with anything, ever. Here's how to get your copy of UudeView, just click on either link of their mirror sites:
