In November, Mireille released her latest album, “De tes mains”, celebrating her long career of 37 years.

Mireille’s concerts at the Olympia in Paris took place during the week of November 19 to 24. For the first time in my life, I had the opportunity to attend two of the concerts. It was a wonderful experience; after following her career for 31 years, I can now truly appreciate her voice and her stage presence.

Marking the release of her latest album, Mireille was at the Virgin Mégastore, located on the Champs Elysées, last November 14. She received fans for more than four hours, taking her time with each one and posing for photographs. Every fan received her personalized autograph.

She also received all of her fans after the last concert in the hall of the Olympia.

The Concert

The concert started at 8:30 p.m., and there I was, for the first time hearing Mireille’s voice live on stage. Her voice sounds the same as it does on her records, but the body language and interpretation of her songs had a great impact and made the experience very special.

With her dominating presence on the stage and her powerful voice, she had everybody’s undivided attention after the first song. For more than two hours, she sang her greatest hits, such as L’aveugle, Mon credo, La vie en rose and many others. From her new album, she sang Aujourd'hui je reviens, (today I return), with which she marked her return to the French scene, also Embarque pour un voyage, La solitude, La vie n'est plus la vie sans nous. The audience gave Mireille a standing ovation; she had to return to the stage four times.

The last song of the show was her great hit “La dernière valse” (the last waltz), during which she invited the audience to sing along with her. It was a very emotional moment, which brought us all closer together.

On November 21, Mireille celebrated the 37th anniversary of her career on stage together with her mother Marcelle. It was a great moment in her life.

Note: I was not there in that concert, this picture is thanks to my friend Ursula from Austria.

The Program

A beautiful program was on sale in the theatre. It contains many pictures of Mireille, lyrics of some of her songs, the repertoire of the concert and credits to the stage artists, musicians, technicians and designers.

Recontre des amis de Mireille Mathieu

Friends of Mireille from France, Finland, Germany and Mexico had a meeting after the concert on November 22. They organized a question and answer contest, “Le jeu de la chanson”. Winners received a CD or a picture of Mireille and they had to sing the song which was the correct answer.

The "Recontre des amis de Mireille Mathieu", was organized by Vincent.

We had a great time with many nice friends.

The evening was very animated; we sang together Un dernier mot d'amour, Sweet souvenirs of Stefan, Chanter, Tous les enfants chantent avec moi, Dieu te garde, Je t'aime avec ma peau, Le silence, Dear Madame, Si Paris était en provance, Martin, Il n'est resté que l'amour, Anteksi Suo, El amor es uno.

Stéphane entertained us with his excellent imitations.

When my friends found out that I am from Mexico, they started to sing “Solamente una vez” in Spanish. Their good pronunciation and knowledge of my language surprised me.

They also sang in Chinese, Japanese and Russian.

After the Concierto

After the concert of the 23rd, thanks to my friend Felix from Spain, who had a pass to see Mireille in her lounge, I had the opportunity to meet her in person. It was the experience of a lifetime.

Mireille conversed with me in Spanish during the five minutes that I was with her. She thanked me for my admiration for her and expressed her affection for my country, Mexico.

Felix asked Mireille if he could take a picture with her and me; she immediately answered “Yes” and took me by the arm for the picture. After the first picture she asked for another one, just in case the first one did not turn out.

Before saying goodbye, she said something very touching, which meant a lot to me: “God bless you”

Mireille Mathieu, Felix Masegosa and me

Thank you very much Mireille and God bless you for this beautiful experience. You made me very happy!

Once out of the theatre, after meeting with Mireille, I found my friend in the Olympia’s entrance where we said goodbye and took some pictures as souvenirs and of course for my website.

Muchas gracias a todos ustedes! Merci beaucoup a tous vous! Thanks to all of you!

Thanks a lot to Vincent for giving me the names of the friends included in this picture.

Before finishing this page, I present to you the new album of 3 cd’s of Mireille Mathieu which was sold only in the Olympia on that date, “Amoureusement vôtre…” which you can find in stores from December 3, 2002.
