I sit and gaze at life
And behind the layers of today
See our past shared journeys
I remember when the smells were of the buffalo
The sounds were of all of our children learning
And the sight was of you returning to our home
Shared with all
The celebration of coming home
Heart warmed at the gift of you and what you brought to us
For the winter
I remember our past journeys
When your heart cried with the agony of
Fighting and the killing
When you moved with the resolve of a warrior
To protect the breathing of all of us
To honor our eternity
I remember the gentle embrace of your eyes
When I presented each new child to you
The dance in our hearts in the making of each
In the naming of them for their life path
I remember my choosing to leave this space
In dying
And the tears in your heart and in the creases of your face
You held me in gentle giving as my spirit flew home
And I kissed your soul Inviting you to patience until you joined me
And now in this new journey
of all space and all time
Man has chosen to learn to control
To make magic with inventions and discovery
And forgotten to honor the magic of how we came to this
Man has learned to name categories of people
And forgotten to honor the souls and hearts of each
Woven into all
Man has learned the art of battle of the mind
And forgotten the making of love in the embrace of each other
As the rains and winds caress their body
The battles in this journey
Leave wounds that will take eternities to heal
For our peoples
We, we have come home to each other
To reveal the majesty
Of past memories
And to speak of the sacredness
Of making memories
The honor of peace
The joy of the creation in each
We, we have come home to each other
To strength
And power
And wisdom sharing
We, we have come home to each other
To create the layers of today
For future journeys
