You have had a feeling in your heart my friend
A feeling you are not sure of
It has lived in your heart now for many moons.
Well, sit my friend
And hear my words
For I have dreamed your feeling
And its meaning is clear
Its meaning holds much
For it is your destiny.
Its meaning will carry you through
To your journeys end
Its meaning will be felt by many.
So listen my friend
And dream your destiny�s dream with me.
I was resting on a hillside
When out of the sky
Carried by brother wind
An eagle took rest by my side.
There was a calm in the air
And as I looked into his eyes
He began to speak.
�I see you enjoy fruit,� he said,
As I savored the taste of the orange
I had brought on my journey.
I told him that the orange was my favorite fruit,
And with that
He took flight.
As I continued to enjoy the taste of my orange
Again out of the sky
An owl took rest beside me.
As with the eagle, there was a calm in the air.
I looked him in the eye and asked
What he was doing there?
He replied
�I was just here.�
�You were the eagle?� I asked
And he replied �yes.�
He said
�Sometimes change is necessary
Sometimes change is needed to benefit the many.�
He asked if I liked the taste of the apple
And I said yes, but that the orange was my favorite fruit.
He replied
�Ah but look in your hand,�
When I looked, I was holding an apple.
As he gazed upward he said
�Change can benefit many.�
When I looked up
I found I was sitting beneath an apple tree
Whose branch was bending
From the weight of the apples.
He said,
�You see
The picking of the apple has lightened the weight of the branch
So it will not break.
So the change from the orange to the apple
Has benefited the tree.�
And with that, he took flight.
The feeling you have had my friend,
The one of leaving,
Is a change.
A change from your first love of teaching, the orange,
to the apple.
The apple is your position of Dean.
Your wisdom and insight into life
Will bring great success and honor
To your position as Dean,
And all will benefit from this success
As did the branch of the tree
From the picking of the apple.
The eagle the ultimate symbol of freedom
Was the essence of your teaching
With the freedom to teach and educate
Many through all the programs at your disposal.
The owl, the ultimate symbol of wisdom,
Is the essence of your position as Dean
A position in which your great wisdom
And your wonderful love of people
Will shine like the brightest star in the sky.
So worry no more my friend
For your destiny will be one of great success
Great love and the finding and making of many new friends.
As the eagle and the owl have said
This change will benefit many.
Walk your destiny, my friend
And my spirit will walk with you.
