As my journey of life gets closer to its end
I reflect back on the path I have taken
I believe our paths have been laid for us
And wait for us to journey down it
I do not question my circumstances
Nor do I regret my actions
If the Great Spirit were to ask for my council on these matters
I would ask that He give more time
With those special people whose path we cross
I would not ask that the results of those crossings be different
But to have more time to savor and enjoy those most special people
I accept death as a part of living
And believe that in every death there is a birth
I remember those who have crossed my path
And then passed on into the land of the spirits
Some of these ghosts give a smile to my dreams and thoughts
And others do not
But I accept their passing as part of their journey
And so as part of mine
There are ghosts who sleep in my memory and are awakened
By a place I visit or a face I see
But it is the ghost who sits in my memory and thoughts
And whose memory makes me long for just a little more time with them
It is these people whose passing has left emptiness in my heart
It is these people
I call
Untimely Ghosts
