Oh Great Spirit, ride with our warriors this day
Guide and keep them safe
Tether your wisdom to the spirits
of our young warriors who ride their first hunt
Let the painted symbols on our ponies
serve as shields against the goring horn of Tantanka
Let our arrows and our lances run true to their mark
so that the journey of Tatanka into the land of spirits
will be swift
The songs of thanks to you Great Spirit, will be heard
across the Plaines this night
We will honor our brother Tatanka
in the buffalo dance this night
Know that we will kill only the number of buffalo
We need to carry our people through winter
For to kill more than we need would bring dishonor to my people
Thank you Great Spirit for your wisdom and guidance this day
And thank you for all we have
As you are giver of life and light to my people
