My Philosophy of Education

I believe that education embraces several goals that are based on what the Reggio Emilia philosophy terms - "the three protagonists" - children, teachers and parents, each of which has rights.  It is the school's responsibility to support those rights.

First, children have the right to be actively involved in the construction of their learning, their identity, their sense of autonomy and the development of their capabilities.  Learning should always exist within a meaningful context.  Children deserve to be respected and viewed as competent and full of potential.  Their ideas and abilities are valued and they are given opportunities to make choices and to be responsible for their own learning.

Second, teachers have the right and the responsibility to build their knowledge and conceptual frameworks that define the context, goals and practices of education.

Third, parents are valued as important partners in education and they have the right to be actively involved in the elaboration of basic principles in addition to their children's experiences of growth and learning.

As the rights of each are supported, we engage in best practices that support children in their learning and provide them with opportunities to develop the skills and attitudes that will enable them to become life long learners.
