SM Foundation Share Extras in Rizal, Kalinga

RIZAL, KALINGA- The SM Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed last April 5, twenty nine sacks of assorted dry goods for more than 423 families in barangays covered by the Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (CIDSS) program.

According to SM Foundation Project Director Cristie Angeles, the activity dubbed as Share Your Extras-Help a Family, is one of the Foundation's outreach programs jointly undertaken with the CIDSS since 1999.  The Foundation yearly solicits from its patrons and tenants used clothes, shoes, toys and books for qualified families in the CIDSS areas, and coordinates with DSWD for its distribution.

Families were chosen based on the Minimum Basic Needs (MBN) survey, a national monitoring tools used to track the level of poverty in poor communities, indicating the kind of assistance that the agencies and organizations need to provide.

Kalinga Representative Laurence Wacnang helped facilitate the transport of the goods from Manila to the province while municipal Mayor Marcelo dela Cruz assisted in the distribution in barangay Romualdez, Santor, Kinama and San Francisco.

It can be recalled that Rizal was among last year's awardees as Best Performing CIDSS Municipality where they received a Ps. 500,000.00 cash reward.  Mayor dela Cruz said they used it to fund their community projects such as a senior citizens' center, goat-raising project for the women's group and a multi-purpose pavement.
