CIDSS-CAR to Expand
to Urban Poor Communities
A executive order from
the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor has caused the
inclusion of the urban poor barangays which the Comprehensive and Integrated
Delivery of Social Services (CIDSS) can now cover.
Following the order, the
CIDSS-CAR secretariat said that some barangays within the considered
urban centers in the region have been identified and are now covered
by the program. These are: Barangays Zone 5, Poblacion in
Bangued, Abra; Poblacion in Kabugao, Apayao; Beckel in La Trinidad,
Benguet; and Balawit in Lagawe, Ifugao.
With the inclusion of
the urban centers, the seven municipalities and the city of Baguio
are practically covered by the program.
The latest figures
given by DSWD show that there are 161 barangays under the
program. Of these, a total of 26,325 families are being served
or benefiting from its various programs.
Broken down into
provinces, Apayao has 12 barangays with 2156 families; Kalinga -59
barangays with 2,077 families; Abra-59 barangays with 6,527
families; Ifugao-27 barangays with 5,548 families; Benguet-24
barangays with 2,814 families.
The CIDSS is considered
to be one of the most successful Social Reform Agenda (SRA) programs
of the Ramos Administration. It was carried over to the
present administration thru an executive order institutionalizing
the program.
