DSWD Releases P1.5M Aid for Displaced Marag Folk

by Evelyn S. Lorenzo, RIO II

LUNA, APAYAO-  Sixty families from barangay Salvacion, who were displaced by the insurgency situation in Marag in the mid-eighties can now rebuild their community as they recently received P 1.5 million worth of shelter assistance from the Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (CIDSS) program spearheaded by the DSWD.

In a five-day demonstration-training held last week, the participants were oriented in the policies of the Core Shelter Assistance Program and taught the technical requirements for the construction of a model unit.

Mobilizing various work teams composed of residents, the 3 x 4 meter semi-concrete structure was completed where much labor went to the reinforcement features that will render the unit typhoon proof.

CSAP is emergency assistance to families who have lost their houses to man-made or natural disasters and who are unable to finance the construction of new dwelling units.  Each of the 60 families is allocated Ps. 25,000.00 to purchase the materials needed.

The local government of Luna, through the leadership of mayor Betty Versola shouldered the cost of aggregates and the provision of  technical staff to oversee the on-going mass construction targeted to be finished by mid-June.

With the project covering Salvacion, CSAP has been extended to 710 families in various parts of the region to date.
