LISA GOODMAN’S REPORT
"Lunch with Lisa" will be held on April 25, 2001 at the Acadia Café. The topic will be the MCDA. Steve Kramer of the MCDA will report on how the MCDA makes development decisions. This promises to be a challenging topic and interesting discussion. The inspections department is having a "kick-off" week wherein the
department will have an open house from 1:00-4:30 April 9, 2001.
Regarding garbage issues: "Neighborhood clean sweeps" are events whereby neighborhoods may choose one day as a clean sweep day. Gloves, bags, and graffiti spray paint remover will be given to neighborhood volunteers. Janet Myles is the "clean city" coordinator. She can be reached at 673-2789.
The Minneapolis "Clean City Adopt-A-Block" Program is offered by the Solid Waste and Recycling Division of Public Works. The program was introduced in the spring of 1997. It is offered to all neighborhood-block clubs. Call Janet Myles for detailed information. (673-2789) The program has received an enthusiastic response throughout the city. This is a fabulous strategy for helping to keep neighborhoods clear of litter and debris.
Fire Safety: There will be a public meeting with the neighborhoods of the Kenwood area (including CIDNA) regarding fire safety, most specifically related to the recent fire on Kenwood Parkway. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, from 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Calhoun Beach Club/ Weisman Enterprises Issues: An agreement is being sought between CBC and Weisman Enterprises regarding the loading and unloading of trucks at CBC that block the Thomas Ave. entrance to the Weisman Building. CIDNA board members raised concerns and questions regarding current proposed solutions for a loading dock.
Never a dull moment on the parkways: Work will be done on Kenwood Parkway near the water tower to retrieve a camera from underground pipes. The camera was put into the pipes to see if vine growth, inhibiting flow through the pipes, was extant. The answer was found when the camera became stuck in the vines.
CIDNA FUNDRAISER
Funds raised thus far from a letter sent to CIDNA residents, total $3,000.
FINANCIAL REPORT
Motion before the board made by Glenna Case and seconded by David Shirley:
THAT THE FINANCIAL REPORT OF THE FIRST QUARTER, 2001, BE AND HEREBY IS, APPROVED.
The foregoing resolution of the board was passed unanimously.
ANNUAL MEETING
The Annual meeting of the Board of CIDNA will be May 1, 2001. Gretchen Nicholls will speak at the meeting on the topic of NRP Phase 2 and affordable housing. Glenna will coordinate with Charlie Elowson regarding paper goods and supplies for the annual meeting. Charlie volunteered to coordinate beverages and cake for the meeting.
STREET LIGHTING
573 cards were sent out
208 cards have come back in
37% response rate (so far)
50% opposed new pedestrian level street lighting
36% were in favor of new pedestrian level street lighting
14% were undecided
A note was made that Lowry Hill and East Isles neighborhoods had similar opposition, in the early phases of their street lighting processes. Both neighborhoods now have the new pedestrian level lighting. The issue will be discussed at the annual meeting. The question at hand is: "Do we want to petition the neighborhood?" Results of surveys, thus far, indicate insufficient interest to do so. The question then becomes: "Does a group of volunteers want to take on the effort, by petitioning the neighborhood?"
EARTH DAY
Glenna Case volunteered to "person" the table at Lake Calhoun for the registration of volunteers for the earth day watershed clean up. She will, however, not schlep tables to said location.
WEISMAN, REVISITED
Weisman Enterprises personnel is asking CIDNA for support for meters on their side of the block. It was generally agreed that this was, indeed, a neighborhood issue. No stand of support, or non-support was decided upon at this meeting.
CCP/SAFE REPORT
Offenses reported from the time period 3/5/01 to 4/02/01 are: a theft from
motor vehicle at Calhoun Parkway and West Lake Street, theft from a shopping
cart, two thefts from a business office.
Saturday, May 19,2001 will be the date of a community and law enforcement
partnership: Opportunities will be provided for citizens to accompany police
and park police officers on "detail." This is an opportunity that promises
to be interesting and educational. There will be a precinct open house from
11:00-2:00. "Detail" will begin at 2:30.
The business before the board being completed [ahead of schedule, for the first time in the history of the board, as far as anyone can recall,] the following motion to adjourn was made by David Shirley:
THAT THE APRIL MEETING OF THE CIDNA BOARD BE, AND HEREBY IS, ADJOURNED.
The foregoing resolution of the board was passed unanimously and the meeting was adjourned at 9:00.
Meetings of the CIDNA board are generally held in the Lake Room of the Jones-Harrison Residence on the first Tuesday of every month. The next meeting is the annual meeting which will be held on May 1,2001, in the large main room to the right of the front doors.
These minutes were prepared and submitted by Marsha Porter. I have today learned, the HARD way, the value of the "file" "save" option of the computer. [These minutes are much more succinct than they were the first time I typed them.]
The minutes were adopted at the board meeting held on_________________, 2001.
