Once upon a time, there was a girl named Miaka. She was a clumsy girl who had a best friend named Yui. Now one day, Yui decided to go to the national library with Miaka to return a book. While waiting for her dear friend, Yui, Miaka suddenly saw a strange vision of a great crimson bird. She also heard the bird's flapping wings. Out of curiosity, Miaka decided to follow the bird which led her to a magical book. Seeing Miaka disappear all of the sudden, Yui began looking for her. She found Miaka just in time before Miaka opened the magical book. Now this book was written in ancient chinese, which Yui was able to translate. As Yui read the first pages of the book, a brilliant red light appeared around the two girls' bodies and instantly transported them inside the pages of the book. At first, the girls thought that they were dreaming, but it wasn't long until they found out that they were in the book. Soon enough, bandits attacked the defenseless girls. Fortunately, they were saved by a young man with an ogre symbol on his forehead. Having strong will to return back to her world, Yui was surrounded by the red light again to be transported back to her world. Miaka's will wasn't as strong so she was stuck inside the book which shall start her adventures and fulfill the legend of the book.
