A knight-bachelor until he was granted Tyannal Manor in 713, Sir Toma Docord is now 38 years old. At 5'6", Toma is not particularly tall but his wide shoulders and thick chest give the appearance of great bulk. His brown hair is just begining to go gray at the temples. His weathered face suggests many days of squinting in harsh sunlight, but his blue eyes are still clear and sharp.
By nature, Toma is brusque in manner and speech; he is a man of action and very few words. His manners, too, are generally unrefined, something which frequently invites 'suggestions for improvement' from Lady Datia.
Toma generally keeps his thoughts to himself but often shares stories of adventure and past exploits with his squire and the village's yeomen. Nonetheless, these tales reveal little of Toma's personal history and the details of his life prior to his arrival at Tyannal are still a mystery to most.
From the little that Toma has revealed, the villagers have gathered that the Docord clan once had holdings in what is now the barony of Aereben. They were lost during the Treasure War - granted to a retainer of Martis Afaelin when Toma's father went into exile with King Balesir's loyal retainers. When Balesir reaffirmed Afaelin's barony after the restoration, the Docord clan found their claims to the manor void and themselves disenfeoffed. Toma's father died nearly penniless, an aged retainer in the household of Baron Legith.
This partly explains the mixture of envy and resentment that seems to influence Toma's relations with his young squire, Koril. Without ever having said so in so many words, it appears Toma believes Koril to be spoiled by having been 'to the manor born.' Though Toma's attitude seems to have moderated over the years, he is still slow to praise the youth for his accomplishments and quick to point out his failings and imperfections.
Lady Datia, eldest daughter of Erehik Teraeth, came to Tyannal as Sir Toma's bride when he arrived in 713. Since then, the blonde haired, green eyed beauty has born three children, two of which are still living - a son, Ilvard, aged 6 years; and a daughter, Halria, aged 3 years.
Though always careful to display the proper decorum, Datia is a feisty woman well suited to her role as Toma's wife. She has made it her goal to make him a more sociable noble and insists he take her and young Alysa, her lady-in-waiting, to Lerenil at least twice each month. She uses the call of religious duties as her excuse for these trips, but everyone involved recognizes her true motives - visiting the markets and socializing in the Baron's court.
Attending Lady Datia is Alysa, the second daughter of Tedte Larles, holder of Larwyn Manon. Aged 14 years, brown-haired, grey-eyed Alysa is a fairly attractive young woman with a personality nearly opposite that of Lady Datia's. Alysa is shy and reserved, still uncertain of herself and her role as a young noblewoman. Another of Lady Datia's goals is to break Alysa out of her shell, but doing so without making her vulnerable to young Koril. Alysa has thus far been successful in resisting Koril's attentions.
The remainder of the household consists of serfs from the village serving as chamberlain, cook, alewife, and servants. There is no ostler; young Koril assists Toma in tending the horses, a chore Toma seems to enjoy.
