Pictures of Protest

I knew nothing of your world
as your pleas to end the war went unheard
and the world turned its back,
never to acknowledge you, who would be martyr.

I knew nothing of your god
as you knelt and prayed for your country's peace
with no answers from above,
and brother continued his killing of brother.

I knew nothing of your pain
as I sat and wept, wiping the tears
staring at your body burning,
a picture so loud that it woke heaven and earth.
