1999 was to be more of the same for the Mugen Honda Jordan team. Schumacher was replaced by Heinz Harold Frentzen. Two race victories were acheived with both going to Frentzen. The team topped the 60 point mark also and finally were able to challenge with the big guns. They finished the season in 3rd place in the constructors championsip(their highest ever). It seemed now that Jordan would now be able to stake a claim for the Constructors championship
2000 was to be a disaster by the now high standards of the Jordan team. Jarno Trulli came in for the retired Hill. Once again the problem of reliability rose for Jordan. It became almost impossible for them to finish a race. The end of the season couldn't come quick enough so a fresh start could be made. They only claimed 17 points and dropped to 6th in the standings.
In 2001 Honda provided Jordan with a works engine which should provide them with an improvement in form. Frentzen was however to have a disappointing season and only won 6 points. A falling out with Eddie Jordan led to him being sacked and Ricardo Zonta and Jean Alesi were tried as replacements but to no avail. Jarno Trulli had a much better time and won 12 points. Jordan improved towards the end of the season and finished the season back in 5th place in the constructers standings.
In 2002 Jordan have two new drivers in Giancarlo Fisichella and the rookie Takuma Sato.
Jordan Grand Prix is located in a purpose built factory near the Silverstone racetrack in Northamptonshire in England. The team's wind tunnel is also located nearby at Brackley. Jordan has grown from just 43 employees in 1991 to now over 250. |
