CURRICULUM VITAE

I learned the moves of chess the age of eight, and became a promising junior but gave serious (graded) chess up at the age of 19. (see my article in Chess Monthly). I took it up again eighteen years later and
am now an active player (league chess and tournaments including some
international ones) holding the title of County Master. I was North Essex Challenger for 2002. My current rating is 160 (BCF) which is equivalent to 2050 (Elo). At the Hastings International Chess Congress 2002-3 I took 1st prize in the New Year "B" tournament section with a performance giving me a first point towards the highest BCF title Regional Master.

At
correspondence chess, I have in the past reached finals both of the Open Championship of the British
Federation for Correspondence Chess (F4) and of the Bernard Partridge
Memorial Tournament, an international (North Sea) “stars barred” event. My rating (ICCF and BFCC) is higher than over-the-board at about 2300.

am a British Chess Federation (BCF) Area Coach.

I
have been Minutes Secretary of the British Chess Federation (1995-97, 2002).

I
have been Secretary (1996-2000), Publications Officer (1994-2000) and Publicity Officer (2001-date) of the
British Federation for Correspondence Chess.

I
am North Essex Chess League Representative on the Council of the BCF.
·
I
have been captain since 1999 of Colchester first team, which plays in the North
Essex League.

I
have published a series of nine articles of Chess Studies in British Federation for Correspondence Chess
Information Circular, which I also edited for a year. I have also published
elsewhere on chess.
