| In 1930, Dr. Eng Ho Seng, Sis. Tsu Ai's brother, whose house was renovated to be the present hall 2, was married and had their honeymoon in Xiamen, China. There he met Bro. Ong Tsai, Bro. Watchman Nee's classmate, who shared to him about the local church. He returned to Manila and having fellowshipped with some saints came out from the St. Stephen's denomination where they originally met. With the help of Bro. Simon Meek (Hok Siuw), a co-worker of Bro. Nee, they met as the Christian Assembly Hall. They started to meet in Gandara with Ngo Bin Kiet, a teacher of Sis. Betty Ong, but later was burned down due to the war in 1938. They then rented St. Stephen to meet in the afternoon. Later in 1945, the meeting hall in Soler was bought. Having no one saved for so long a time, Bro. Witness Lee came in year-end of 1950 that led to 210 people baptized. Bro. Lee fellowshipped with the serving ones at that time if they wanted him to come just to help or to lead. All agreed to let him lead and so he added 2 new elders and changed all the deacons. The group later met as the Church in Manila. During those years until 1960, Bro. Lee would come to Manila to serve 3 to 4 months and return to Taiwan. In the year-end of 1960, Bro. Lee led the young people to Baguio for a conference. Bro. Lee went back immediately to Taiwan and soon to America. When the Lord's day came, the trouble already begun and we were not able to break bread that day but only offered prayers. The church at that time were having 300-400 meeting regularly in four district-homes. The elders who always come together to pray in the morning were not allowed by the guards with guns from entering the meeting hall later that week. They were asked to go to the Security and Exchange Commission to check who owns the meeting hall. The following Lord's day, they met in home 3 situated in 609 Sto. Cristo Street, the only district-home who stood firm. During those times, Bro. Guiu Kong Hee of Hong Kong came to comfort the saints. The saints prayed and asked the Lord to bless the gospel if what they had done was not division. The Lord answered their prayers and a lot of prominent people got saved in those 3 days. With the increased in number to more than 100 saints meeting, they had to move to a school in Binondo along 543 Juan Luna Street. The whole church started to renovate the place. Even the children came with their piggy banks to offer to the church. In 1970, Bro. Lim Kong Din, Bro. Joseph Lims father, help purchased and built the present hall 1 located in 1007 Ongpin Street. Presently, the church has an average of 450 meeting regularly on Lord's day in 4 halls with 16 districts. |
