How to identify photos

Livonia Public Schools prohibits the use of student's names on it web site. That's why photos do not name the wrestlers in them. But you can identify the photo based on the photo's name.

Photo name - Example: c29jd3b.jpg

The photo's name consist of 4 parts: the date of the event, the wrestler's initials, the round in which the photo was taken, and the sequence the photo in the round.

• Date of the event - c29: December 29

  • Month and day

  • b = November

  • c = December

• Wrestler's initials - jd: John Doe

  • First name, last name

• Round - 3: Third Round

  • The round for tournaments is the order that the brackets were wrestled and can vary from tournament to tournament. Round 0 is usually a rattail. Round 1 is usually the first round of a tournament or the only round in dual meets. Some rounds will have both championship and consolation matches. Wrestlers usually will not wrestle in every round. This occurs when the wrestler has a bye or when a round include only championship or consolation matches.

• Sequence - b: second photo

  • Letter sequence, from a to z

  • Listed in the order that the match was wrestled and the picture was taken.

• Thumbnails - t

  • Thumbnail photos begin with the letter 't'. Thumbnails are smaller photos of the original. They are used to keep the size of the web pages small to keep download times to a minimum. Thumbnails will usually always have a larger photo associated with them.

• Junior Varsity - J

  • Junior varsity pictures, taken in conjunction with a varsity event end with the letter 'J'. Pictures taken at a Junior Varsity only event will not use the 'J' designation.

Finding the photo name

The name of a photo can be found in several ways.

• When viewing thumbnails (smaller picture on the web page), place the cursor over the picture. In most cases, the cursor will change from an arrow to a pointing hand, showing that you can click on the photo. The name of the photo will display the browser's status bar.
• When viewing larger photos (after clicking on a thumbnail), the photo name appears in the browser's Address or Location field.
• Right click on a photo.
  • In Netscape, the name appears in the pull-down box: View Image (c29rf1a.jpb)
  • In IE, click Save Link As... or Save Picture As... The name will appear in the subsequent dialogue window.

Ordering photos

Photos that appear on the web site have been shrunken and compressed to make them load faster. In the compression process, some quality is lost. Original photos are available in Windows bitmap format (.BMP files) in 1024 x 768 resolution. This makes them 60% larger than the 640 x 480 JPEG's on the web site. The BMP files are 2.2 megabytes, versus 34K on the web.

If you would like to order a non-compressed photo, please contact the Churchill Webmaster. Please provide the name of the picture. Photos will be delivered by email in zip format (approximately 1 Megabyte). Please make sure that your email allows you to accept large attachments and that you can unzip the files before you order photos.

Note: All photos that appear on the web site will eventually be put on a CD and given to all wrestlers that end the season.
