You are right, that fellow above is OCY, sitting in a lecture room last year (2002). OCY is a university student, but contrary to what you think, OCY is no Computer Science student, instead he is doomed with the fate of being imprisoned in the mechanical engineering faculty for 3 years, and he has to stay for another 2 more years. What a sinful waste of talent, huh? :-) Anyway, our beloved Asian education system is the expert talent killer.
My first encounter with programming was terrible: I was 11 years old, a "computer class instructor" asked me and the other students to key in tonnes of BASICA programs into a medieval 8088 computer... I wonder which genius on earth can learn programming like that... ( and why should programming be taught to 11 years olds? )
Anyway, I started to program in QBasic when I was around 16, writing funny and useless "Hello World!" programs. My very next language is assembly language, in DOS though. Hey, assembly is not easy, I worked very hard on it! Besides, without proper training, I was exploring programming blindfolded... Hoooooooh! Without strong determination from then to now, you won't see me on the net now... And lack of time stopped OCY from learning C / C++. Hence, when I tried to migrate to Win32 assembly... I still remember the painful experience.
Now, I usually program in Win32asm, ocassionally in Visual Basic, sometimes in QuickBasic... The Visual Basic Rapid Application Developement (RAD) concept is actually very nice, but the programs are too huge and too slow. That is totally unacceptable to a demanding assembly language programmer... :(
And who says OCY only knows programming? Yup, although OCY is a mechanical engineering student, he thinks that thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, machine mechanics and all those crap are boring, and are polluting his mind. ( Sorry to all engineers out there, but I can't convince myself that engineering is more interesting than programming. ) So, OCY plays the piano to temporaly wash away all those mechanical toxin... Hooooh, I have been playing the piano for 14 years!
