Raising Heroes

Their Write Up My Write Up
Josh and Paul are successful young New York gay couple who are nervously awaiting the outcome of a year-long battle to adopt the orphaned four-year-old child of Paul's late best friend, Susan, who willed them custody.  Their court opponent is the child's grandmother, who is contesting her daughter's will - with a vengeance.

One day Josh walks in on a brutal mob hit, which is intended to look like a deli robbery.  He becomes the sole witness and is targeted for termination.  Mr Nappi, the Mafia godfather, sees Josh as easy game for his son Michael's induction as a hitman.  But things do not go quite as planned...

When there is nowhere left to run and nowhere left to hide, the men must face and fight the enemy.  This leads to one final, bloody shoot-out.

If the family is to have a future, it's a fight they have to win...

Josh is a believable character, though the situation to an English viewer is not believable.

The look and feel of the character Paul is also unbelievable.  The film itself is watchable, though you do have to put your reality chip on hold throughout.

The way that all the good guys are gay and all the bad guys are hetro is also a little strain on the belief system.  Though the scene with the the two hetro government workers (female) was one scene that was believable, though totally derogatory to most hetro's.

I'm not sure whether I liked this film or not, I cannot place it as a romance, as the violence is far too much, I would not place it as a thriller as it does not come across as scary at all, though I think it is meant too. What I will say is that it is violent, follows a very confused man (who would not be in this situation) who happens to be gay, through a number of situations, some believable some not, to a violent conclusion, and not what I would call a happy ending.

Watch it and decide for yourself.
