| Academy Award winner Kevin Spacey and John Cusack lead an
eccentric cast of characters in one of the most anticipated fims of this
year.
Director Clint Eastwood weaves murder, mystery and voodoo inot a
suspenseful drama about a sensational murder trial in the genteel town of
Savannah Georgia, and the havoc it plays with a subtle and intricately
structured way of life.
John Kelso (Cusack), a young writer, is sent to Savannah to cover a
prestigious Christmas party. This elegant, lavish and stylish event
is hosted annually by Jim Williams (Spacey), at his sumptuous home.
Kelso's assignment seems straightforward, he will simply immerse himself
in Savannah's gracious Southern atmosphere. Unfortunately things
don't quite work out that way when the affable host, Jim Williams, shoots
a man dead.
The party is over, and the mystery begins.... |
I enjoyed this film enormously, though the whole line of
Cusack falling in love (with a woman) was not needed for the storyline and
was obviously only put in to give the story a 'hetro' feel. The
story would have stood much better without this sub plot in it.
Spacey's character I loved from the first scene he showed up. His
obvious play for Cusack, Cusack's raised eyebrow turn down, was brilliant
and shows what excellent actors these men are.
The whole film has a feel of unreality about it and you are gripped by
the feeling of 'what happens next'. Take out the unnecessary scenes
of Cusack chasing tail and you have a film that grips you totally. |
