Yes I really was so bored that I
decided to analyze some of *NSYNC's earlier work.
Let's face it, some of that stuff wasn't
what I would call quality material. Well, anytoby, here are my
breakdowns of the themes of each vid.
For The Girl Who Has Everything
So, *NSYNC is somehow shipwrecked on a "deserted" island. They then proceed to build a shelter. Meanwhile, in NYC, we meet a young anorexic rich girl who is unhappy 'cuz she never gets to see her parents. Back on the island, the boys find a trunk w/jewelry and a camera. In another trunk, they find clothes. JC then makes a flag out of the dress to help the thousands of rescue planes looking for them find them?? Even while stranded on an island, *NSYNC knows the importance of physical activity, so they decide to have races up and down the beach. They then take an ever so becoming pic of themselves and put it in a bottle along with a note that says, "For the girl", which in reality is referring to about half the world's population, but for the video's sake, there's just one "girl". After their strenuous workout, the guys decide it's time to bathe, so they stand/sit in a body of water of some sort. Then while walking back to their shelter (we assume) they stumble upon 5 horses which coincidentally already have bridles and reins. They ride the horses until Lance begins to cry because it brings back memories of the good ol' days and Toby. To make Lance feel better, they decide to sing around a campfire. Back to the girl, she gets upset and starts walking in the traffic-filled streets of the city by herself and ends up near water (Hudson River perhaps?) and falls asleep. When she wakes up, she finds the bottle from the boys and all her troubles magically disappear.
Tearin' Up My Heart
Alright, so we start out with the guys in an abandoned loft. This is not just an ordinary loft, it's also a gym and a photo studio. Aside from working out and dancing for the camera, the guys also like to lay on the floor together with a bunch of pictures scattered around them. These are no doubt of their girlfriends from back home that Lou made them break up with in order to be in *NSYNC. Now, we find Justin in a small room lying on a bed, showing off his "15 year old" biceps. The guys wanted to give America a feel for their fashion sense so they decided to wear suspenders, overalls, and to tie jackets around their waist. Chris even decided to grace us with his ever popular headband. (Yes, the fashion mishaps began a looong time ago.) Even though this wasn't the meet *NSYNC video, the guys wanted to show some more of their hobbies. J.C. enjoys holding guitars, not playing them, just holding them. As you may well be aware of, J.C. is very artistic and creative. He shows this by taking the abstract approach of singing and dancing while not looking at the camera. Lastly, you really get a feel of Chris' age when he holds his heart. This is obviously because he "feels the pain" after the slice(s) of pizza he just consumed.
I Want You Back
This video starts with a girl riding her bike in the street. We then come to the guys who are dancing in front of a huge silver sheet thing. Since this was the first American vid, and they didn't have much money, we're guessing this came from Chris' bed. From the marquis that says *NSYNC, we are assuming they have a show later. Now, this is the good ol' meet *NSYNC video where we really get to know the guys. For instance, they all like to play pool and drive. This is also where we get our first glimpse of the Lance-Joey connection. They both like to jet-ski and Joey likes to push Lance in the water (foreplay perhaps?). Chris wears braces, and has the funky dreds that aren't really braids yet. He also likes to play basketball w/his good friend Justin and strangle J.C. The only thing Justin really likes to do, it seems, is play basketball. Lastly, J.C. likes to drive w/out his hands on the wheel (Can we say safety hazard?!) and he gets dumped in the video (now that's realistic...)
Here We Go
Alright, in this video, *NSYNC is not only the basketball team, but they're also the dance team. A puzzling little fact about this video is that they ARE the bball team! It's a 5-PERSON BASKETBALL TEAM!! Is this a European thing that we're not aware of??? Well, back to the dance team, they like to practice in a dark, black room w/a big white basketball thing in the back. This is just an all-around bad video for Lance. It focuses on the 2 things he uh excels at...basketball and dancing. In the basketball area, we find that his big strategy is to stuff the ball in his shirt. (Now you may feel that this is a wimpy way of keeping the ball, however we believe it's really an invitation for the other team to uh reach for the ball...) A few other things we noticed: The boys are playing in the high school basketball finals, so it makes sense that Chris is on the team being that he was roughly 25 when the vid was made. Apparently (from the cheerleaders' uniforms) they are the red-star team; their mascot being a star, yeeeaaaah... This vid is also the early introduction of Justin being the designated "favorite". The red-star team puts Justin on their shoulders when it was Chris who made the winning shot. Finally, to celebrate their victory, they decorate the gym in lights and have a lil' party.
