I must have told this latest "kids-say-the-darnedest-things" story to just about anybody I've seen but just in case I missed you, here it is below:
In my class, we are currently studying Energy in Science. A lesson last week was on conserving energy and how to protect our environment. An example I gave was that people could carpool in order to save gasoline (because it is a non-renewable resource) and to cut down on the air pollution that is damaging the ozone layer. I then asked the students if they knew any other ways to conserve energy. A boy, Matthew, put his hand up and offered the following, in a very serious tone,
"We need to conserve the gas in our bodies by not burping or farting."
I try to keep a straight face and ask him, "What do you mean, Matthew?"
"Well, if you fart or burp, then you will lose all the gas in your body, and you won't have any more, just like how there would be no more gasoline if we use it all up!"
At this point, I couldn't take it any longer and start laughing.
Oh, kids.
