| I lay back against the tube, feeling the artificial current pulling us along the 'river.' JC suggested we should go together just in case he got lost or something. Or at least, I THINK that's what he said. I closed my eyes, ready to drift away when... SpLaSh!! The cold water hit me like a ton of bricks and Arctic wind. The sudden water made where ever it touched, freezing cold. I could hear the familiar ringing laughter, followed by another SPLASH! It was JC. Suddenly I felt I just HAD to get revenge. I stretched my hand out and splashed him right back. "HEY!" he whined, shielding himself from my attack. "YOU started it," I countered. "That was for having the waves pound into me like there was no tomorrow!" he shot back. "Well wasnt having me hanging helplessly over your shoulder good enough?" "No," he laughed, splashing me again. We splashed each other until I cried out, "STOP!" "Why?" "I'm soaked." "Hence the name Soak City," he laughed. "Ha ha. That's not what i'm talking about. I'm freezing," I said, hugging myself to keep my teeth from chattering. JC put his arm around my shoulders. "Better?" I smiled, remembering earlier in the day. "Yeah. Much. I owe you one." "No." "What?" "You owe me TWO." I rolled my eyes as we neared the end of the ride. Then I realized we had gone around about 5 times. 'Wow.' Once off the ride, we headed directly toward the chairs. JC picked up his towel and threw me mine. "Thanks." "You're welcome." ********************************************************** "UGH!" I cried in frustration, tugging at my hair. I ignored the stares other women and children nearby gave me. I was already trying to solve problems of my own. My hair was entangled in the bright pink ponytail holder. And let me tell you, pink in monstrously tangled black hair does get some attention. Finally, I was able to untangle the hair from the ponytail holder. After about 5-10 min-utes, I combed my hair as nicely as I could without pulling any more out. I sighed in relief and walked out, carrying my black mini back pack with me. About 10 yards away JC sat on a bench, trying to look as inconspicuous as possible. When he saw me, he jumped up and ran over to me. "Man what the heck were you doing in there? Cooking?" he asked incredulously. "NO. I was chatting on the internet," i replied sarcastically. "Actually, i was taming my hair." "God you're as bad as Justin. Well it looks fine now. C'mon!" he rushed, pulling me. RING! I heard the muffled ring of my cell phone and freed my arm to answer it. "Hello?" I answered. "Um, is this Jessica Chung?" asked the voice. It sounded like a man that had some really bad problems(not THOSE problems, the tragedy problems). "Uh, yeah." "Hey. This is Justin Timberlake," answered the man. "Oh. Hi...Justin. What's up?" I asked catiously. At the sound of his friend's name, JC listened intently. "Um...well, me and the rest of the guys went out with your friend Heather, you know, to see the sights. Anyway, we took a b-ball break and she tried to do a layup. Well, her foot twisted and she fell and hit her head hard. Now we're in some hospital down town." "What?" "I'm sorry. When she was falling she was out of my reach..." "Don't worry, it's not your fault," I said, tears coming to my eyes. "What's going on?" asked a curious JC. "We'll be there as soon as we can." I could tell JC was thinking 'be where?' "Good. And JJ?" Once I got over the initial shock of the nickname, I answered, "Yeah?" "Hurry." "I know." |
