~The Part of Me I Never Had 27~
We had made out right out on the cliff. Not usually my kinda thing, but
Cmon, lets get back to the house. Theyre probably worried about us.
Cant we stay a little longer? I whined.
I wish we could, but its already late. Cmon lets go.
***************************************************************************
The sky was now a vivid purple. The last of the sun was going down as we reached the door.
He opened the door. It was dark. But I could sense people inside.
JC flicked on the lights.
SURPRISE!
I jumped back, gasping in surprise.
What are you all here for? I asked quizzically.
Its a house warming party. Like it? asked Justin, donning a party hat.
Mikayla, Nida, and Julie rushed to me and hugged me.
How did you guys get down here?
Dont you know? They flew us down here. First class too! Mikayla squealed.
You guys didnt look through my address book did you? I asked Justin.
It fell open, Justin said.
Yeah. It fell to 15 different pages, I said sarcastically.
Ok. Fine. Were guilty as charged, he said, holding out his hands as if handcuffed.
I thought I told you not to use that except for emergencies! I yelled, hitting Justin with a throw pillow.
Dont worry about it. We didnt really look at it again, JC interrupted, grabbing my arm.
Say what?
We kept the numbers from last time, he responded sheepishly.
They didnt do that either, Michael interrupted.
They didnt? I asked, not convinced.
Keith and I worked it out a little on that department.
Oh. Then what are we waiting for? Lets party!
Yeah!
***************************************************************************
JC and stopped dancing for a moment and went to the bar.
Red wine on the rocks, JC ordered. He turned to me and asked, What do you want?
I dont drink.
Oh, cmon! Just for the party?
Ok. Fine. Ill have what you got.
Great!
***************************************************************************
I stumbled and sat down on the couch.
Hows your night? asked Justin, sitting next to me.
Its going fine Justy, I slurred.
Sounds like you had some number of drinks there, girl. Ease up.
I shook my head. Im gonna go change.
I stood up and waited while I got my balance and to distinguish the different people. The picture went from fuzzy to blurry. Then I stumbled past partiers and made my way to the stairs. I went up each step one by one. As I put my foot on the third to last step, my foot slipped on some spilt drink. Subconsciously, I let out a shriek. My body bent backward, my arms flailing. My head hit first on the wooden stairs. I heard JC say the words, JESSIE! before my world was plunged into darkness.
***************************************************************************
(I know I didnt have JCs side of the story, but Im only doing this cuz Jessies blacked out)
I rushed to her unmoving body, which was slowly sliding down the remainder of the stairs.
I pushed past the guests, wanting to get to her. My heart was breaking and my eyes were filling easily with tears.
Jessie?! I yelled, trying to wake her, even though I knew she wouldnt.
With my right hand, I lifted her head onto my lap. I withdrew my hand and saw blood.
Justin! Call the 911! I yelled out, my voice breaking from tears.
Jessie, dont do this to me. I love you. I need you. I cant go through this againplease I whispered feebly. The tears were running down like rain on my face, but I didnt care. All I wanted was for her to wake up.
***************************************************************************
The doctor emerged from the ER.
I stood up and ran quickly to him.
Whats the news? Is she gonna be ok? I asked hurriedly.
Shes fine. We put stitches on the gash, and that will heal her. But she is in a coma so youll have to wait a while till she wakes up. The doctor left.
I was experiencing dj vu. I remembered the day Heather had gotten into a coma. The first day Jessie and I had togetherbut she wasnt gonna die. She couldnt.
Are you ok? asked Justin softly as I slowly dropped to a bench.
NO, I am not ok. My one true love is in there in a coma Justin. Am I ok? I asked bitterly.
Im sorry man. I know how much she meant to you.
No. You dont know how much she means to me. She means more to me than my life. If she has to die, let God take me in her place. Just as long as she lives, I said softly, letting the tears fall rapidly down my face.
Maybe I dont know. But give her some faith. Shell survive for you.
***************************************************************************
It had been 2 days. I sat next to her, holding her hand, hoping for some signal that shed be awake.
The nurses had long before given up on making me leave. I was staying.
Justin and the guys-as well as Jessies parents-would try and make me go home, but I couldnt. I couldnt leave her. I hadnt eaten well and I hadnt slept for those long two days, in fear that Id miss something important. Only Keith and Michael had stayed with me. The guys would bring us food.
I was eating the pizza one day, not even tasting it. I kept my eyes on her, waiting for a sign of consciousness.
I blinked my red eyes. Every second, a memory flashed through my head, making me even more determined, as well as miserable.
C? Come on. Youve gotta come home. Youre pale, youve got dark lines under your eyes, you need to come home, Justin pleaded.
You dont understand Justin. I need her. I cant live without her. Being rejected was bad enough, but seeing her body, lifeless? You have no idea how many times killing myself came to mind just to relieve the pain. She means everything to me. If she dies, I do too.
She wouldnt want you to do this. Come on C. Youve probably lost 5 pounds. Youve got to eat. Youve got to sleep. Theyll call if something happens.
I am staying with her. I wont leave here unless shes with me.
He left without another word.
Cmon JessieI know you can pull throughplease wake upI love you I bowed my head, sobbing.
JC? I heard a soft whisper.
I head snapped up. Jessie?
JC she squeezed my hand. ThenBEEEEP!!
NO! JESSIE!! DONT DO THIS TO ME! I cried out. I sobbed uncontrollably as the doctors and nurses rushed in, herding me out.
JC! What happened? asked Keith.
But I didnt even have to answer. My face and my tears said it all.
Shes notis she? he asked weakly.
I hope not, I managed to say between tears.
I sat down and buried my face in my hands.
There was a tapping on my shoulder. I looked up. It was a girl. She had a picture in one hand, a pen in the other.
I turned away and cried some more.
The doctor came back out, face unreadable.
Sir, I have some news about Jessica.
I looked at him miserably. Yes?
He smiled. We managed to shock her back to life. Her heartbeats weak, but shes alive.
I smiled weakly. Thank you. It was a miracle. I thought I had lost her forever. There was a new hope within me.
Keith, Michael, and I embraced each other, forever thankful that she didnt end up like another
