~Test of Your Sanity 20~
The crowd looks bigger than usual, Lance noted, looking around the California natives and their screaming and jumping fans.
California is ALWAYS big, JC said.
Hurry up! Jessie called, running into the stadium.
Coming! JC said, running after her.
He is SO whipped, Justin said, running after him.
Lance laughed and ran into the large building.
***
Well get you, a man said softly, staring out the window. Yes sweetie well get you.
***
Bye, bye, bye! they sang, running into the room behind the curtain.
Everyone was already packed and ready to go.
They ran toward the bus. JC, Jessie, and Heather jogged slowly to the bus.
Then-
AAAAAHH!
JC and Jessie stopped dead and looked around.
LET ME GO!! she shrieked, kicking her legs.
We have strict orders to obtain you, the policeman said, increasing his grip on her.
Heather! they cried, running over, but they were soon held back by the other policemen with him. LET GO!
The policemen pulled them back farther.
Whats going on?! Jessie shouted, struggling against his grip.
We have orders, he said simply.
From who?! JC demanded.
Thats none of your business.
JC! Justin cried. He tried to run back out of the bus, but Slim stopped him. Hey!
You cant go out there, he warned.
HELP ME! Heather cried, tears coming down from her eyes.
Your friend AJ is waiting for you, the policeman said roughly, pulling on her harder.
AJ?! she shrieked, stopping for a moment. Then she glared angrily at Jessie.
Jessie froze, seeing the red flames erupting in her blue eyes.
I CANT BELIEVE YOU! she cried. I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU!
Jessie instantly felt guilty. True she knew what she was doing when she told AJ that she was with them, but she didnt know he would do THIS. Now she felt like the lowest thing in the world. Now she wanted to turn back time and to keep her secret. But her conscience told her that she had done the right thing by telling AJ. At least she cant run away again.
The body guards had freed them from the arms of the police, but JC and Jessie still stood there, staring at the dot of Heather and the policeman getting farther away.
Cmon, Lonnie said. Get back into the bus.
Jessie turned around and brushed past JC and walked fast to the bus.
Jessie!
She ignored him and walked faster.
Its all JCs fault. If he wouldve never told me to call she thought angrily to herself.
Her ears caught the pounding of feet on the pavement and she ran the rest of the way to the bus. She jumped up the 3 stairs and went straight for her bunk, ignoring the strange looks she got from her friends. With a grunt she plopped onto her bunk and shut the curtains.
Hey JC.
Have you seen-
No, Chris replied-just a tad to quickly.
Where is she? he asked.
Somewhere, Lance said, replaying the partys events.
WHERE?
Someone mustve pointed, because the light pierced the darkness of the bunk where she was hiding, thinking.
Go away, she said.
Jessiewhats going on? he asked quietly, not understanding the situation.
I dunno JCI dunno
***
Let me go! she said again, feeling exasperated with their roughness.
Im sorry maam, the young officer said. I would if I could, but-
I cant, yes Ive heard that statement before, she said bitterly. From a so-called friendwho cant even keep her MOUTH SHUT?!
Yeah well
Yeah well what? First you take me away, then you leave me in this nuthouse, but do you really have to put me behind BARS?! she cried. I do have some restraint!
The officer grimaced. Im just following orders.
From who, may I ask? she asked impatiently.
Do you know anyone named AJ McLean?
She grew furious. HE did this?! AJ?
I see.
Do I get a phone call? she asked sarcastically.
Yeah, actually you do.
Oh, she relaxed. But she was thoughtful. Who should she call?
The young man handed her a quarter and she thanked him. She approached the pay phone in deep thought. She SHOULD call Jessie to tell her she was okbut she wanted to let AJ know what a jackass he was for doing this to her. Her long fingers tapped on the silver buttons, dialing a familiar yet distant number. The rings went by in monotone and the officer watched her carefully.
Hello? It better be important cuz Im not in the mood, answered the voice.
Jessie? Its me.
HEATHER! she shouted, making Heather jump. WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!
Im at some police station, she sighed.
WHAT?! Why?
Some dead ass named AJ.
Jessie chuckled lightly, then turned serious again. He is gonna be dead when I see him again.
Uh uh girl. Hes MINE! Heather shouted into the phone.
Jessie laughed this time and Heather laughed with her, in better spirits. For the remaining 2 minutes they talked about the important things.
Hey girl, gotta go.
And Im gonna go kill JC for telling me to tell AJ where you were.
Whyd you tell him? Heather asked, feeling the hurt resurface.
I had to. For one, JC made me, and two you were running away from your problems.
Oh. I guess thats kinda truebut still. You promised.
I did it out of the goodness of my heart, she said jokingly.
What goodness? What heart? Heather asked innocently.
You wanna live to be a grandmother? Jessie asked threateningly.
Yeah well I- the phone connection cut her off. Heather cursed at the phone and put it back on its cradle and returned to her prison-literally.
