“Come on! Please?” she whined.
“No.”
“Why not?”
“This is my favorite one!”
“It’s not like the luck would be worn off or something.”
“So what? North Carolina is mine!”
They ran around the room, laughing and wrestling with each other. They were just like little kids. Sad really. But they were getting along extremely well. They could talk about anything.
Meanwhile, Heather was out with Lance. Once again: Figures.
“AH!”
I spun around.
Jessie was slung over Justin’s broad shoulder.
“You’re gonna pay!”
“Oh c’mon! Lemme down!” she cried, pounding on his back.
“Say it…”
“NO!! JC! Don’t let him make me!” she pleaded, laughing at the same time.
“JC! Stay back! I wanna hear her say it! Please!” Justin begged, backing away from me.
“Come on Justin. Let her down,” I said calmly, wondering what she would have to say.
“NO! Never!” he laughed, swinging her around.
“AH! I’m getting dizzy!” She held her head.
“SAY IT!!” he demanded, spinning faster and faster.
“OK! Justin Timberlake is the hottest man on Earth. There! I said it!”
He set her down gently on her feet.
“NOT!” she yelled giddily, running behind me.
“HEY! HEY! You are NOT getting away from me!” he shouted, running at me.
She grabbed my sides tightly and moved me around like a shield when Justin would try to reach around me and grab her.
“STOP IT YOU GUYS!”
We all jumped, looking around frantically for the source of the voice.
“He he he. So you guys like the new sound system?” cackled Chris, swinging a microphone from his right hand.
We charged.
“AH!” he yelped.
He tried to run away, but we got there first.
“AAH!” we shouted as we wrestled each other.
“Oof!” I grunted as someone punched me in the arm.
“Ah!”
I mustered all my strength and got to my feet.
Then I pulled Jessie back up.
“Thanks.”
I laughed. But I wasn’t laughing at her. I was laughing at Justin and Chris, who were still fighting.
They looked up. Then they stood up, acting as casually as they could.
“Ok Chris. Let’s see this new sound system,” Justin suggested, obviously trying to ignore the situation.
“Ok. Come on,” Chris agreed.
They turned and left the room.
We burst out in laughter, sitting down on Justin’s bed.
We stopped laughing, letting the room fill with silence.
I stared into her captivating eyes. It was a vast space of brown and sparkle. I felt myself getting lost in them.
“JC?” she whispered, shattering my thoughts.
“Yeah?”
“What do you see?”
“Where?” I was getting very confused.
“In me.”
“Well…I see a caring, funny, intelligent, sweet, kind, honest, perfect girl. And it’s someone I want to get to know better,” I said softly.
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
Then, she hugged me tight. She released her grip, but still had her arms around me.
Sensing the perfect moment, I moved my head closer. I was relieved when she moved closer also.
Our lips made slight contact, which was enough to make my nerves go crazy. Exhilarating. I pressed my lips harder onto hers and put my arms around her middle. Our lips moved together, not slow, but not fast either…just perfect. It was as if we were made for each other…
We parted away slowly, savoring each second. Our arms were still around the other. I was breathless.
“Wow.” She smiled.
I couldn’t help but smile back.
