Canadian Rockies (August 2001)

i took these pictures when i went to the canadian rockeies last summer. it was a stunningly beautiful place (well... maybe except it’s a little bit too crowded with tourists, including me)! the place should be even more pretty during winter tho, but dat will be a lil bit too cold for me... anywayz, with my camera i tried to experiment more with landscapes... mountains... water... etc.

alrite let’s start with this little elk, or “Wapiti”, that i saw on the highway side... the only animal that i met in the whole trip... i’m kind of disappointed that i didnt see the bears, coyotes, caribous, mooses, bighorn rams... maybe bcuz it was summer time...

Takakkaw Fall of the Yoho river, the highest in canada, it’s name in Indian word meaning “it’s wonderful”. in winder ice climbers actually climb it, hella crazy... i walked too close and i think the photo didnt really describe the height of the fall, but if u see closely on the left side of the picture there's two more guys that walked even closer to the fall than i did, maybe their height can give u a sense of the size of the fall.

water reflection... i took this pic at the starting point of the icefield parkway, which connects Banff and Jasper

on the ice-field parkway ~ see how clear the water is. notice the color of the lake, there are rock particules suspending in the water that were being washed down from the glaciers. the rock particles reflect the sunlight, which gives each lake its unique, milky color.

Banff Springs Hotel. it is probably the best chateau hotel in America and wut i think can be only compared to the Mission Inn in Riverside, CA. too expensive tho and fully booked all year!

inside a gift shop in Banff, where i discovered Japanese culture... ok first of all, the shop was flocked with japanese tourists. 2nd, read the sign, if u know japanese; or if u dont, i’ll explain it to u. alrite, the shop was filled with these kinds of so-called i dun kno “Indians Dream Catcher” thingy. okay the important part is, once in a japanese TV drama called “Beautiful Life” , this hot, famous actor Kimura Takuya, in the drama, received one of these from his girlfriend (who in reality is also a very popular actress, as u see her face in the sign)(she also claimed that she bought it from Grand Canyon, not the canadian rockies). man it’s fascinating... Japanese... just because of this drama in japan, the canadian tourism industry benefited so much, as i observed so many ppl were takin out their $$$ for this thing, which included tourists from japan, taiwan, china, hong kong, korea, singapore... and my dad. note: lots of the gift shops in Banff are owned by japanese.

Lac Louise ~ the single most beautiful place in the canadian rockies
wohooo! i think this is by far the best landscape pic i have ever taken. it’s one of those pics that u want to put in a nice frame, and u wanna make it ur comp’s wallpaper. the zoom effectively compressed the depth of the photo, giving u the feeling of how close and big the glacier was in the background. the flower in the foreground then add the layer to the pic. Very Satisfied! =D

the most photographed version of Lake Louise ~ the V shape

from another angle dat really cant see the lake... it was 9pm and this photo was 4+ over-exposed, as u notice the orange light on the right side of the pic. i think i’ve a lil bit over-done the exposure and the sky became too bright. oh well... with the prolonged shutter, the water and fireweeds turn out to be not bad.

Moraine lake - i couldnt find an angle to capture the Ten Peaks altogether bcuz otherwise i would have fallen into the lake. so i just got 1 peak, blahh. FYI: it’s canada’s most familiar mountain landscape, as portrayed on the back of the $20 bill.
damn... i got dust on this photo when i scanned it...

Lots of pics from the Columbia Icefield ~ biggest chunk of ice in north america south of the arctic circle, continental divide of 3 plates, cost me Can$13.50 (bohhahaah children’s ticket ~ ahahah im cheap), 15mins on the ice, the snowcoach, a humorous canadian driver that told the passengers there were seat belts on the coach but actually there was none, see cracks in the glacier...

Emerald Lake, it really has an emerald color! ppl said when the lake is looked from the sky/space, it will look like a piece of emerald!
having canoes in these canadian rockies photos have became typical... it’s like u have to put in the canoes just to complete the picture... i dont get it... so i tried it! i jumped on that #3 yellow canoe and exercised for an hour in the middle of the lake.

outside jasper park lodge... tranquilty... tellin u... jasper was so full of tourists that u wouldn't believe it... i think we couldnt even find a hotel space so we stayed somewhere else...
