"Aw, Chump are quite charming in print. A self depreciating duo, one of them is a student nurse, the other a cinema manager. They're not about
to give up their day jobs and they don't want to offend anyone by citing them as influences, but they do "both like Radiohead and Elvis." As you
may have come to expect from the self-effacing, the stuff they offer is not the usual ignorant, ham fisted claptrap spawned by bands too busy
running for the tour bus to do anything worthy of getting them there. Not that this is going to win them any prizes for accessibility. But maybe that's
the point. Through the distorted recordingd and erratic levels, you can hear that the only thing Chump are interested in is the music: slow and
cinematic with the odd incongruous touch and vocals far too loud without the help they need. The whole thing needs help, but at least its politely
crying out for it."
An abridged version of this review was also
printed in the December 2002 issue of the NME
where Chump's Coup D'etat was named as one
of the best demo's of the year. Kick arse.
