| Magic in shadowrun falls into two basic fields, HERMETIC and SHAMANIC. Hermetic wizards study for their magic which is scientific to them. Shamans view magic as spiritual and gain it by rituals. |
| Magic comes in 5 schools: Combat, Detection, Health, Illusion, and Manipulation. Combat spells affect the target directly, no one can see a combat spell "flying" through the air, but the target of a combat spell sure feels it. Detection spells do exactly what they say, they detect a specific type of target Health spells recover health and cure diseases and toxins. They can also alter attributes of a target. Illusion spells trick the mind of a target into seeing, hearing, smelling, feeling, or tasting something that isn't there. Manipulation spells are the most all-encompasing spells. They inclulde elemental manipulations which create elements like fire or water; and transformation manipulations which alter the forms of targets. |
| Another form of magic is the Adept. Adepts channel magic into their bodies to give themselves superhuman power. Attributes can be raised, a fist can be made into a deadly weapon, and their skin can become armor. Only a few adepts with the right training can cast magical spells, most prefer to use their hands though. |
