Olympic Torch Pictures
My Olympic Torch run began early in the morning on Sunday, January 27, 2002.  The flame was being brought up from Idaho in a big cauldron on the back of a specially modified vehicle.  I was supposed to take the flame the moment it arrived, so I made sure I had everything ready right on schedule.
The day dawned windy and snowy. The dogs were hooked up on a strict schedule, anticipating the arrival of the flame. Here I am bringing Olive to the line. She was one of two Siberians in the middle of the team.
Everything looks ready.
Wind and snow and low visibility caused the flame to be delayed in its journey from Idaho, across the Targhee Pass, into Montana. We got the word that it was going to be at least 30 minutes late. My team was already hooked up and ready to go, and now I had to figure out how to keep them calm for the next half hour or so.
While we were waiting, they rigged the sled with some video equipment. The dogs visible here are Siberians Ricky and Olive in swing and Alaskan Huskies Amtrak and Rose in wheel. They are still expecting to go at any moment.
The cauldron finally arrived, so we did a quick check of how everything would look with the torch in hand.  Leaders are Fresca and Ghost.
Here I am being interviewed for the Olympic web site. The dogs have figured out that we are not going anywhere for a while.
The lighting of the torch! The flame arrived in a huge cauldron. The torch was lit from the cauldron, and then the cauldron was extinguished. The fuel in the torch would not light if it was cold, so they had to bring out a second torch that had been kept warm in the truck.
Here I am posing with my husband, Mike Kane. He is kneeling in the snow, ready to pull the snub line for me.
