The Teen Coice Awards 2000
In General: So um, basically we all knew who was gonna win beforehand, even the Justin/Britney stint(I still laughed at that though!), so there weren't any big surprises. But I liked it anyway, it was a crazy atmosphere, and of course it was a fun show for younger people and their idols. And I liked how *NSYNC gave standing ovations. Or...um...yeah.
*Choice Female Artist(Or whatever these award names are): Freddie Prinze Jr. comes out and introduces this category, which Britney Spears gets. As for Britney's outfit, it is a little daring, but not a lot different from her others...I'm not gonna get all stuck up over it. And yes, I was vey much hoping that Britney would pull Freddie away from Sarah, but hey, I deal.
*Choice Movie Chemistry: Okay, you know what you were thinking when Mandy Moore walked out with the three Hanson...brothers. You know. No offense to any of them...okay fine, go ahead and take offense, but...YOU GOTTA ADMIT!!! THEY LOOKED SO MUCH ALIKE I WAS LAUGHING SO HARD AND GOD STRIKE ME DOWN BUT I COULDN'T STOP!!! OH DEAR LORD HELP ME!!!
On another note, David Arquette and Courtney Arquette won for this category, and I'm glad for them. They do have good chemistry and are cute together. Even if I did vote for the pie...
Then Jennifer Love Hewitt comes out and introduces Enrique Iglesias(Can I just take a moment to comment on JLH? I like her, really, but she's not sexy. She's so waifish it's not even funny. I know she doesn't have anorexia and it's probably just beyond her control, but take it from me, and all my friends that I talked to agree on this, she's not a figure of perfection. I don't even know if guys really like her at all or if it's just girls who want to look like her that put her up on a pedestal, but whatever. She's not my thing). I kinda like Enrique(And my dad like likes his dad...weird) and can't really think of anything funny to say about him, so I won't:). He knows how to work the crowd, though.
*Choice TV Personality: Introduced by the two Popular stars. Carson Daly won for this. I can't remember if I voted for him...I think I voted for Tom Green. But I'm glad he won, too, 'cause he thanked Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. and told them they were a cute couple. Alright, I have to agree wit dat, even if it boils my blood like nuthin' else, otherwise I'd be a hypocrite.
*Choice Pop Group: In the words of JC: "Hellooooooooooooo...!" *NSYNC!!! And it's so cool how the crowd just knew who was gonna win. And it was so funny how Chris knocked Justin's water bottle out of his hands...well, really it wasn't, but I just thought I should mention that. And they thought Old-Town danced better than Lance and Joey...lol, that'll fuel the Lance humor site real good:).
On another note, *NSYNC received two other awards at this time, Choice Single and Choice Music Video. So the guys each got to hold a surfboard.
On another another note, this award was announced by Tyra Banks and Scott Foley. I don't know what I think about Scott Foley, but bring out the Tyra. I saw Coyote Ugly. I brought a girl. Okay, done bragging. I liked Piper Perabo's song, by the way. Actually it's LeAnne Rimes' song, but hey.
*Choice Breakout Artist: Jessica Simpson. I think I voted for Sisqo, but I'm glad she won, too. This category was introduced by the brothers of Malcolm in the Middle. The lil'est one was funny, especially since I saw him in both those movies.
*Choice Athelete: Kobe Bryant won for this award introduced by Carmen Electra and Usher. I voted for Tiger Woods and Dominique Moceanu. What, you ask me how I voted for two different people? Why, by repeating votes using different names and e-mail addresses of course! Oh, I love the internet.
*Choice Male Artist: Sisqo won. Aaliyah and Pink introduced. Uh, yeah, you can tell I'm running out of things to say...
*Choice Hotties: Here's what probably went on while they were pretending to be hugging and congratulating each other...
And now three people who I don't recognize come out and introduce BBMak! I can't say anything bad about BBMak either, they're pretty good. And they just look so bloody British with their streetlamps and telephone booths; I'm glad they can also learn to not take themselves too seriously:).
*Choice Breakout TV Show: Popular. I don't like Popular that much. I think it's funny and it's got great ideas and sentiments, you can tell they really do try and make it good for us. But it gets so ridiculous(Bobbi Glass!? WTF is that, don't tell me she actually has a point!), and just another excuse for twenty-somethings to dress up as sixteen-year-olds and pretend that they know what it's like to be in high school. I of course voted for Angel(You know? Buffy spinoff with the guy who seems to be developing a slouch?), but it didn't even make it to the final four...sad:(
*Summer Movie Wipeout: "Me, Myself and Irene" won, and it was very painful to look at Jim Carrey, 'cause I'm not really that far off from him:)
*Choice Love Song: Presented by Ananda Lewis and Andy Dick. I must say I fell over laughing when Andy went off on his Slim Shady spoof. He's better than the real one, too:) Now, was there any doubt that Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson would win? There's nothing more romantic than love songs sang by real couples. And no, The Backstreet Boys don't count:)
Did anyone notice how easily Nick just flung Andy Dick away when he wanted to? Da**, man, them steroids be workin' hard! AAAHH! I'm kidding Nick get away from me!
Then Carson Daly comes out and introduces No Doubt, and I guess I've always thought that the wedding dress idea was a little Madonna ripoffy, so I didn't pay a lot of attention to this show.
*Choice Hissy Fit: Lisa Kudrow. Adam Carolla and Dr. Dru intro. 'Nuff said.
*Choice TV Drama: Dawson's Creek. Now, I don't really like Dawson's Creek either(Of course I voted for Buffy), for reasons that are hard to explain 'cause I actually used to watch it a lot. Prepare for rant The first season was good. The second season was kinda emptier, but with a lot of redeeming factors. With the third season, it was so easy to tell that these are just TV characters in a TV-formulated plot. And no, as much of a freak Dawson is, Joey(Potter)does not belong with Pacey, Joey belongs with Dawson(Duh!), Andie belongs with Pacey, Jen belongs with that Nick Carter lookalike, Jack should just go off and find a nice, pretty, stable, caring homosexual man, and Pacey's brother needs to get back on Hyperion Bay(It's cancelled now, though, 'cause Carmen Electra came and ruined the dang family-driven plotlines...nevermind). Geez! The "twists" in the plot were very obviously added just for the sake of adding twists and did nothing for the show's emotional progress and my liking of it. And Eve!? Who the heck was she!? I didn't even watch the show when she was on, I was so pissed. And no, Jimmie, you do not come close to resembling a teenager. I'd like to see you take on Nick Lachey. The only cast member in that dang show who you can look at and ask, "Might she be a young'un?" is Katie Holmes, and she didn't show up. People say that this show got off track then on track again, so I guess I should give the next season another shot. But "Young Americans!?" Jesus Christ I could go on and on about how the show was so obviously sold with sex when it didn't have to be and how I am passionately in hate with whoever does the casting, but I won't. No, no, the actor's aren't bad, just 24(The blonde girl, Bella, is my age, though). Alrighty then, enough about my pain!
On a much saner note, this category was introduced by Ricki Lake and someone else who I can't remember.
*Choice Rock Group: Blink 182, I'm fairly sure I voted for them. Well, if I didn't, I'm glad they won anyway.
Then Holly Beck and two more people come out to tell us about how the votes were counted and show a litle clip with celebrities explaining it to us. The good news was that *NSYNC showed up and they were funny. The bad news was that Lou Pearlman showed up too and he was fat...I mean not funny. Hey, what was Ikaika(Previously of O-Town)doing there, I thought he cut his strings(Think closely about what that means:))?
After which 98 Degrees came out to play. And they danced, too! I mean, I don't see a lot of their performances, but from how they carried on in Making the Video I thought they sucked at dancing or something. From what I saw here it ain't that bad. They were, quote-unquote, "in synch":)
*Choice TV Sidekick: I of course picked Alyson Hannigan, but Sean Hayes, who got *NSYNC's autograph, won! AAARGG Of course we're jealous! Ah heck Sean's cool anyways.
Brandy Norwood and another person then introduced two women's tennis pros who coincidentally look a lot like these two people I know from school...nevermind.
*Choice Actress: Sarah, Sarah, Sarah! Ooh, guess who I voted f0ooooor~~~! Yippee! I'm like a little schoolboy! It actually came as little surprise, considering. I mean, she's Buffy. And Buffy art God. All hail Buffy! And it looks like she fleshed out a little, which is a very, very good thing. I mean, hey, SMG's the last person I would ever suspect of being unhealthy, but after the MTV Movie Awards boneyness look, I was a little concerned about the type of stress she's putting on herself.
On a much much much saner note, this category was introduced by the Roswell cast. Yes, I actually like Roswell. Yes, half the actors look like they should be graduating from college and going into the Olympics anytime now, but see, that's not the point of Roswell. The point is the suspense and the mystery and the romance and the emotions and most importantly the fantastical science fiction of it all. Kinda like Buffy. So there. Actually, you know what got me into Roswell in the first place? The title song. Seriously. The opening sequence is so tight with the windows and the things and the things, it's even better than Buffy's.
*Choice Comedy: Friends. I voted for this one too, "Friends" is my favorite sitcom. Britney Spears introduced this category.
*Choice Actor: Freddie Prinze Jr. I voted for Tobey Maguire, who I honestly do think did a great job in Cider House Rules and incidentally is going to be playing Spider-Man who's my favorite superhero...nevermind. But I'm not sorry Freddie won, actually. There are limits, it seems, even to my hypocrisy. He's right when he said that he was here with the most beautiful girl, though. Sigh. It's kinda interesting how Sarah won for the female role and Freddie won for the male, kinda like God is telling me, back off, lil' boy, you're whacked.
Or maybe it was just that crack I borrowed from Lou...
*Choice Summer Song: Was there ever any doubt:)? Summer of 2000 was the Summer of *NSYNC, and none can deny that. It's not gonna be them, it is them. Okay, lame attempt at humor, but I'm pretty sure someone laughed.
*Choice Summer Blockbuster: Scary Movie. I like this movie too, but whereas I only saw it twice, I saw X-Men(The one I voted for)three times. I can't help it, I'm into stuff like Halle Berry...I mean the X-Men! But I didn't see Anna Paquin there or anything, I wonder who would've accepted for X-Men if it won?
But you know, I really wished they could've aired it live, or at least not release the results until they could air it later. I wanted to be surprised. I wanted to be shocked. I wanted to be one of the thousands who would barely stifle the scream rising in our throats as we watched Justin and Britney lean in for the big one, only to laugh it off later. But hey.
