The Radio Music Awards 2000

I don't actually have a whole lot to say about this...I mean, *NSYNC didn't perform and they didn't do anything OHMYGOSH and there were only three of them there anyway, but just like the Teen Choice Awards they were integral to the show and there were a lot of neat elements about the night anyway. So here goes, what small amount I recall...

*The show was hosted by Sisqo, the BSB, and Mark Magraff, so technically there were seven people hosting at different times. Which actually made for a rather interesting night despite a tad bit of timing-related awkwardness.

*Alright, the basic stuff first; As noted, Justin and JC weren't there, it was mentioned that they were either a)sitting at home watching TV or b)working on the new album. Use your own judgement:). It was okay without them though, 'cause *NSYNC won two awards, Top 40 Song of the Year and Pop Radio Song of the Year, both for "Bye Bye Bye." They were presented one of the awards by Boys2Men, and I thought that was really nice.
Some people have noted that Chris may not have been feeling that well tonight. I have noticed that he wasn't as crazy monkey-foo as before, I mean he did try to make jokes and stuff but it wasn't as far out as usually. But before anyone mentioned it I didn't think about him feeling down at all. Maybe I'm just not as empathetic as most people, but I think maybe people are reading it a bit too much? He may be just tired, I don't know. Note: A few days later on Rosie and Regis he was just as chirpy as before, so I'm thinking it was only a small thing, if there indeed was a thing. If there was no thing then it wouldn't be a thing. I have no idea what I'm talking about.

*I noticed that Enrique Iglesias had an uncharacteristic tone to his voice that was kinda...I don't know, metallic? It just didn't sound like it did, even if his performance was still okay.

*BBMak: Alright, I feel so guilty, but I'm beginning to think of BBMak of "those three guys from Britain." That's my unofficial name for them. Dangit, I feel so weird for only knowing one of their names(I think it's Mark...), so it's just like, "those three guys from Britain who play the guitars." I always have trouble with names; I can't even begin to imagine how I finally got *NSYNC's down. Last week I called an online friend by her mother's name. O the humiliation.
Anyway...back to BBMak...um, they were pretty good. They sang a bit of "Back Here" and "Still on Your Side," the latter of which I don't know but sounds good all the same...I don't know, you think it's possible for me to get into this vocal-plus-guitar harmonizing style? I like the guitar, and I like the vocals, but we'll se.

*Christina Aguilera didn't sound as great as she was at the Latin Grammys...or maybe Come on Over Baby's just a harder song to do, I don't know, the beat seemed a little off(In the future, I advise against trying to rap and sing at the same time...what sounded cool in the soundtrack ended up kinda awkward). I was surprised that they edited out the part where she sings about sexuality...Ah well, the world's not gonna end if we don't hear a small part of her song.
But her hair...okay, don't deny it, you all know it was a live hedgehog:). Still, Christina Maria Aguilera is the only human being in the world who can don something like that and still look kinda good to me. I have major issues, I know.

*Britney wasn't there, she was in Europe, but she presented a taped rendition of her "Stronger" song in Germany. It wasn't exactly the best...she kept shouting "WHOO!" to try and get the audience pumped 'cause I guess those Germans aren't quite as fanatic as us Americans(Which is...good?)and the camera angles weren't too good and her voice started to crack near the end...but hey, if I expected a flawless performance it'd be unrealistic, and really I thought it was pretty good all the same.

*98 Degrees: I believe they went on right after Joe did, and frankly at this hour of the night I was actually hoping for an upbeat tempo song. They sang "My Everything," possibly because it's their next video or single or something...yeah, don't I sound exactly like I know what I'm talking about:)? I don't know 98 D that well 'cept for the fact that Nick has a big'ole head, almost as big as Joey's, in fact. Still don't know what I'm talkin'bout...

*O-Town was there, and for some reason I almost didn't recognize them. They kinda blended in...

*I'm sorry, I just gotta mention this...when Backstreet Boys went on to accept one of their awards, instead of playing a BSB song they instead played "This I Promise You." *Bites down on tongue barely holding in the laughter* Okay, I feel really bad for the Boys, they didn't deserve that! They had won an award and deserved some good props, dangit. But oh it was so funny. It showed Lance's face and he was all, "Umm...O_O?"

Kevin's Thoughts: Whoever was in charge of the music, may you and all your accursed kinsmen rot forever amoung the festering worms of the Abyss from whence that gruesome h**l-b***h spawned your forsaken rear! Also, you suck!

Kevin's Actual Words: Whoever was in charge of the music did a great job...:)!

Well, we can imagine:P...but honestly I do think it was a crappy thing to happen. If it was a mistake, fine(How could it be a mistake is what I'm wondering about), but if someone did that intentionally...maybe I'm just getting all uptight about nothing anyway.

*Another thing I have to mention: When they showed the nominees for that category and they played TIPY, instead of having the music video for that particular song, they showed "It's Gonna Be Me" in slow-motion. Okay, now we know whoever handles these technical aspects were clearly and undeniably on crack. Note that the TIPY video was out by this time. Had been out for a week. And they couldn't get their hands on it? Okay...

*There were of course some other performances that night, including one by the Wallflowers which I actually enjoyed(Yeah, I did. Yeah, it was edgy music which I don't mention that often on my site, but really I'm not anti-edge, I'm just anti-bad music, and this wasn't bad), but I won't list them off(Basically 'cause I can't remember them...).

General Thoughts on the Night: I'm always into these kinds of awards shows where everyone's there just to give props to other artists and have a relaxed but interesting experience; The Oscars used to be like that but are really too boring:P. It was just a nice night, nothing too spectacularly wowie gee golly happened, but it was nice, my Negativity Alarm didn't go off at all. The BSB even gave props to *NSYNC at the end(Okay, they were mixed in with a load of other artists, but it was just an intentionally pleasant gesture). So there you go. Nice night, but if you didn't watch you didn't miss a whole lot.

"So there we go."
