Pop Psychology Part 7: Chris...Crazy Maniac or Symbolic Genius?

First of all, I'd like to acknowledge that this page wouldn't be possible if not for pinky junior, who posts on the LiveDaily Message Boards. If not for her post I would still be sitting around thinking that the most interesting thing in that quote was those five robot lions;). A lot of the following ideas originated from her with me only elaborating a bit here and there.

You've read the Celebrity CD cover right? And you read Chris' part, scratching your head and laughing at what a weird and funny fellow he was to put all that in there, dismissing it as something only Chris would do for laughs.

But...what if...there was something else to the message? What if there's some sort of clue we're supposed to be getting from him? Chris is smarter than we think...just what if...it isn't just a random message, that it actually has meaning and depth?

I was walking towards the front of the bus to get the waters. When I passed my bunk and my telephone rang, I answered it and the person on the other end said, "Earthquake," and just then the bus hit a bump, and it freaked me out and I dropped my phone and the battery fell off. So, as I'm bending down to pick up the battery, I hit my head on the edge of the bunk and it knocked me out...cold. And then I had one of those "Wizard of Oz" dreams. You know, one of those dreams that last for hours, but only lasted 50 minutes...and when I came to, I noticed that you and you and you were there! So I continued on my quest for the waters, as I opened the door on the front of the bus. My bus driver turned to me and said, "Where's my horse?" Just then I realized the bus was out of control. I grabbed the steering wheel...that would be the first bump you felt. So I had to slam it into gear, with no clutch...that would be the second bump you felt. And, as the entire crew was celebrating me saving the day, I got caught up in the hype and forgot to bring you the water.

-Chris, "Celebrity" CD cover liners

Okay let's take this slowly...step by step... Let's say that the telephone represents Chris' psyche. It's his personal self, his individuality. And not just that...it's "Chris."

And let's say that the "bumps" = "The albums that they put out." First bump = debut album, second = NSA.

"Wizard of Oz Dream": In the Wizard of Oz Dorothy goes to sleep and has all these adventures when in reality only a few minutes passed. So this could be to tell how their careers went...so much has happened, so much confusion, and it's all been crammed in such a short time.

The water is used to symbolize a special "something"...the "umph" in a project. Their goal, their ultimate creativity. It's what they're striving to do with their work.

Okay so let's go...

I was walking towards the front of the bus to get the waters. Chris and/or the group is setting out to get into the business and to achieve their creative mark.

When I passed my bunk and my telephone rang, I answered it and the person on the other end said, "Earthquake," Chris himself knows that there's gonna be a lot happening, the "earthquake."

and just then the bus hit a bump, and it freaked me out and I dropped my phone and the battery fell off. The first album is released, but it's all so fast so soon that Chris loses himself, he gets caught up in the "earthquake" and loses his individuality.

So, as I'm bending down to pick up the battery, I hit my head on the edge of the bunk and it knocked me out...cold. Not sure about this part yet...he was trying to reclaim himself, reclaim the part of "Chris" that he lost, but is unable to because something..."the bunk"...stopped him.

And then I had one of those "Wizard of Oz" dreams. You know, one of those dreams that last for hours, but only lasted 50 minutes...and when I came to, I noticed that you and you and you were there! As he is unable to reclaim himself, he goes into his career anyways...filled with so much stuff and achievements and color...but in reality only a few years of his life. When it ended(right now), he notices that suddenly he has all these fans, ie "you and you and you."

So I continued on my quest for the waters, as I opened the door on the front of the bus. My bus driver turned to me and said, "Where's my horse?" I grabbed the steering wheel... He goes on trying to bring us, the fans, the "water"...ie that special something that has always been their goal to give us. The bus driver is Lou.
Okay this is complicated so I'll go further into detail...I think "The horse" can be used to describe their old sound...as opposed to "the bus," which is their new sound. Both are methods of transport and both get you there in one piece, but one is just so much more advanced and reliable. So the thing that they're riding on...it's their music. Or...style. The horse is the old sound because it's ancient and not as efficient, the bus is their new sound which is arguably better.
IN WHICH CASE, the bus driver can be used to describe their former management, or Lou, or whoever...he's the one driving the show. He asks "Where's my horse?" because they're on a bus now, a far more advanced step. He can't control this new element and the bus goes out of control. But CHRIS grabs the steering wheels, ie takes control of the new sound from the old management.

that would be the first bump you felt. So I had to slam it into gear, with no clutch...that would be the second bump you felt. The first bump is the first album. He's trying to take control but can't quite yet. The second bump is NSA...no strings attached, "no clutch."

And, as the entire crew was celebrating me saving the day, I got caught up in the hype and forgot to bring you the water. Everyone is celebrating, but one important thing has been forgotten in all of this ruckus...the water. That all important "ultimate creativity" and artistic goal that they owe their fans, that they want to achieve. It has been left out.

So I think what Chris is trying to say is that with this album, with Celebrity...he's finally caught up to his goal of giving us the water. Of giving us what they truly want to give us...the ultimate art and style of *NSYNC.

...Deep, eh?

Hey, maybe we're wrong about this. Maybe there is no hidden meaning to all that jargon. I mean I haven't figured out all there is to it yet either. Maybe it's just babble?

...and maybe that's exactly what the wily old fart wants you to think;)?

This page might be updated later, if I think of any other good points to make.

What do you think? Do you agree with my claims? Am I just way overthinking this for my own good? Do you think I need a swift kick in the abdomen area? Well, tell me! I'm always in a good mood for feedback.
