| Fixing The Wega Oversqueeze |
| So you bought a Sony Wega, and you're loving 16:9 enhanced mode, but why does it look so squished? Out of the box, Wegas set in 16:9 mode oversqueeze the picture, and it can look unnatural. So here's the simple fix... 1) Pop in a Universal Studios DVD or AVIA Guide To Home Theater DVD 2) Activate the serivce menu and find the "asp" parameter* Use my Wega Calibration Page to learn how to access and use the service menu 3) Turn 16:9 enhanced on 4) Find a tape measurer or ruler 5) Either using the Univ. Studios logo or the 16:9 widescreen AVIA grid pattern, adjust "asp" until the circle is as tall as it is wide 6) Turn 16:9 enhanced off* 7) Save Settings** Happy day! *Note: If you save with 16:9 enhanced on, your TV will startup with 16:9 activated every time. **Experimentation shows that the correct "asp" value should be around 55, but that doesn't mean your findings are incorrect. 1.3.02 |
