CHUCKSTER'S FS WEGA CALIBRATION USING AVIA
Do you want to get the most out of your WEGA?  Well here are MY best settings using the acclaimed Avia HT calibration DVD.  Results will vary depending on your DVD player's video settings and room lighting.

START:

Switch the Wega to movie mode and switch the DVD player to the warmest setting (theater, cinema, warm, etc.).  The following settings are for watching DVDs in a totally dark room.

PICTURE: 22 notches
BRIGHTNESS: 32 notches
COLOR: 37 notches
HUE: directly in middle
SHARPNESS: 18 notches
COLOR TEMP: warm
VM=OFF

ACCESSING THE SERVICE MENU: WARNING, THE NEXT STEP SHOULD BE DONE CAREFULLY

With power off,
1.  point the remote at the TV, and consecutively press DISPLAY, 5, VOL+, and POWER (on)
2.  to navigate use 1 and 4 on the remote to switch between parameters
3.  press 3 and 6 on the remote to decrease or increase the parameter value.
4.  to save press MUTING then ENTER, to reset EVERYTHING press 8 then ENTER.  When saving, there will be a line that says write which will turn red for a second upon saving.

parameter/value

axpl^ = 0
axnt^ = 0
rdrv* = 30
rcut* = 20

EDIT: axpl and axnt settings may vary between different Wega models.  Essentially, it's worthwhile to experiment (toggle between 1 and 0) with the listed parameters and the red filter supplied with the AVIA calibration disc to achieve an optimum red level.

END:

At the very least, turn the red push off (axpl and axnt to 0, FS models).  I highly recommend using a calibration disc like AVIA.  If you're unhappy with your settings or you screwed up, simply turn off the TV, and when you turn it on again, nothing will have changed.  If you save, then the changes will be there permanently.

Turn the TV off and on again after saving, and that's that.  The picture may seem too dim and soft because you're used to watching a sharp, bright picture.  After a few hours (or weeks for some), you'll notice a great improvement.  Also, red is significantly reduced.  Factory Wegas have too much red (red push is turned on). By NTSC standards, the factory red is too high, and it makes the images look unreal.
Red push is taken care of by adjusting axpl and axnt.  rdrv and rcut further reduce red output.
